I did not think of it until reading this thread, but those of us who are often asked to show a current medical card will probably still have to carry it, even though the card has been registered with the state. The shippers who ask for the cards will not be able to run your CDL like the cops can to verify current medical.

My statement still stands. It doesn't matter what kind of freight I haul or for whom I haul it, I've still nevertheless not once been asked to show my medical card by anyone other than the two entities I've already stated. That doesn't mean that others have different experiences, it only relays my own experiences. It's why I used the first person singular in my comment.

I was not so much trying to contradict you as I was letting people know that there are many places that ask for the information. Newbies need the entire story. Having more information makes their "drive" through the world of expediting easier.

We have "made" medical cards that are the size of our drivers licence. We still carry the full size copy in our "office" on the truck in case we are asked for it. So far all who have asked for our card have been satisfied by our homemade cards.

That should cause some cancelled loads.

Another government improvement in our lives. Don't forget, Starting in May we will NOT be allowed to go to just ANY doctor for our DOT exam. We HAVE to go to a GOVERNMENT APPROVED doctor ONLY. IF you can find one the cost will be higher than it was in the past too.

HazMat tests and quals are a bad joke. I lost mine because I was recovering from knee replacement surgery in Pensacola FL area and they required finger prints for requalification. I said OK I'll go to the Federal Bldg. in Pensacola and do it, no you have to return to your State (Missouri) and do it there (Homeland Security requirement). I have been licensed by the NRC to carry radioactive sources i.e. Iridium 192, Cobalt, etc., I was the Fire Marshal and Gas Free Engineer on a Super Aircraft Carrier and I worked with damage control throughout my 23 years in the U S Navy.

Can you say more about this? When Diane and I got finger printed for our HAZMAT CDL endorsement, we went to a location in the state we happened to be in at the time. Has this changed? Is it now necessary to return to your home state to get finger printed? We're good for now but our home state is Minnesota and we have not been there since Christmas, 2012. I hate to think that a rules change would require a special trip.

This happened about 3 years ago and maybe it's changed. More than likely I was given false info just like the IRS they'll tell you anything and then their not responsible! I did ask them a couple of times why this was and they said that was policy. As a retired Naval Officer I think they know pretty much about me but when you're dealing with some Government Agencies Common Sense doesn't really prevail.

Not all states participate in the federal govt fingerprinting program "haz prints". FL is one of those states. So FL can not run prints for a non resident nor can a FL resident have their prints captured in another state. However if the state you reside in and the state you are wanting to get your prints captured in are both part of the federal program than you are golden! Their website shows all this
hazprints.tsa.dhs.hov
At the bottom of the page you select the state that issues your license and it will give you all the info.

News to me, I thought they all had to be connected to the system. Thanks for the info.

The states in gray are not part of the Hazprints system.
