Just saw a sign on an off ramp in Boston that was a yellow diamond caution type sign that said "Thickly Settled" What the heck does that mean? More people than they know what to do with? :p

When we saw that sign I asked Bob and we decided it was very congested in that area! I wonder what someone that really know will have to say on this?

Speed zones in Massachusetts are designated based on "thickly settled" which is 30 mph or below and are usually rural small town heavily populated areas. Other areas are as posted. Get caught speeding in a thickly settled area and the fines can really shock you; $50. from 1 to 10 miles over 30, then $10. for every additional mile over. Picture how easy it could be to come off an interstate at 65 and find yourself going 50-55 in a thickly settle area at the end of the exit ramp.

Great link, Paul - it's good to read that sometimes, when you miss a turn on the route you're trying to follow, it's because there isn't a sign to indicate the turn. (I always think I just didn't see it)
Not so great was the Highway Dept's promise to replace a missing sign, "if asked to" - how can anyone ask them to, if the sign was never there in the first place? x(

>That phrase and 2 arrows would make a great t-shirt for me.

Yeah, I'm beginning to need that kind of Tshirt as well. x(

Thanks for the information everyone...I thought that's what it had to have meant, but never had we seen a sign like that.
