"It is better to offer no excuse than a bad one." —George Washington
It might be his birthday, but we think George Washington gave us the real gift with this quote.
When it comes to your pursuit of health and happiness, we think the most dangerous move you can make is to allow yourself to make excuses for slip–ups. Permitting yourself to justify mistakes is taking a step toward a slippery slope, from which recovery is very hard.
There is absolutely a time and place for wiggle room. The important thing is that you can distinguish between a bad excuse and a legitimate one. You got sick and refused some loads? Don't beat yourself up!
The best thing you can do for yourself is to call your mistakes what they are: mistakes. That way, you know that when a similar situation comes along again, you'll recognize the need to take a different approach. Trying to justify actions that are detrimental to your ultimate goals is only doing yourself a disservice.
So next time you find yourself tempted to make an excuse for a misstep, STOP! Think about the wise words of our birthday boy. Success will come to those who own their errors/business decisions and give serious consideration to how they should do things differently next time!
