There are very few posts these days! I would like to conduct this poll and maybe find out why. Your

In this poll I thought of the 6 reasons why members may not be posting on the forum lately. They are the 6 choices in the poll. If anyone of the 6 choices doesn’t meet the reason for your lack of participating in the forum please feel free to reply to this poll. Just click on the “post message to this poll” and give us your reason for not posting lately. If you want to remain anonymous, but would like to inform us as to why you stopped posting, email me at [email protected] or Lawrence at [email protected] Than you! Many appreciate your input.

RE: posts

I already clicked on one of the answers in the poll, but I thought I would clarify.

I've been a part of this forum for about 3 years now I think??? Most probably know my background.. I originally got my CDL back in '93, first driving experience was Roberts Express D1115, ol Mitsubishi Cabover. Since then, I've drove drove different things, even drove for the local farm co-op delivering Anhydrous Ammonia, bulk seed, etc. I came back to Expediting in 2000, which ended when the owner I was driving for couldn't find drivers for 2 of his trucks, so he decided to sell them all.

Since I've been off the road for a while, sometimes I feel like "MY" knowledge is a bit dated, so I hesitate to give info, feelin like maybe I'm not qualified for "Now Info" if that makes sense. I still read this forum everyday, and read every news article, either here, or on Mobile Internet on my PCS.

I still have a love for the road, for this business.. and yes... I do tend to see the good side more than some, but... that's the "Dreamer" in me :) :) , and I will encourage anyone who loves the road to try this, and I'll hand out my share of Expo tickets even if I don't getta go :( :(

Right now, I'm planning a return to driving after the first of the year, but hoping to have my own, instead of my cash flow being at the mercy of a fleet owner's decisions. Right now it's pending on financing, and the right company to return to. All my experience has been with Roberts/FedEx... and tho my first instinct is to go with what I know.. more than likely, my finances will only handle a van, so.....gotta find someone who needs em! (tho that thing Alumibunk sent said they'll finance anyone??)

Anyway, long-winded.. maybe too much info... but... that's my story,.. and I'll probably stick to it!

Hey Tony.. drop me a note when you're coming back to this area.. I still owe ya that coffee...

RE: posts

I'm probably guilty at times about lack of posts. When we are home, I generally don't post if I feel the answer has already been answered, or I don't have any better ideas on the subject. Sometimes when I get on in the wee hours of the morning, my brain is already fried and I don't want to torture anyone out there by having to read my drivel.

On a high note, the biggest reason for not posting alot is that when we are out, there just isn't time. No complaints either, although by the 3rd day, the sound of a sit-down meal is really appealing - unless we get a call to work. I hope most of us here have this same reason.

RE: posts

I know I have been very busy since the first of April. I keep up more or less as a moderator because I have to, but can't answer every post I would like to. I really hope nobody thinks I am "Mr. Negative," as during the summer I am busy not only with my job but family and personal things, and balancing all of them is difficut, and I am very fatigued now, to the point where the times I sleep I dream about sleeping- how about that? I am embarassed to have turned down more loads this past week than loads I was able to run. How about that? Tony forgot to put in his poll "I am the Bionic Man, and am too busy to post right now."

RE: posts

Tony, I'm guilty of the first three for sure. Being a relative newbie, I don't often think I have info of any value for others, I can only relate to you what has happened to me since starting in this wonderful world of expediting (no sarcasm, I mean that, we love what we're doing). Many times I can't spell and my grammar isn't worth a darn, I like to say there are many mistakes on this keyboard and I can find them all, anyway I'll keep trying. Last but not least, the negativity can be bothersome at times, BUT then I look in the mirror and I see someone who has at times been more negative and more critical on here than she would like to look back on and remember, so I would like to be the first to apologize to anyone that I might have offended by putting my fingers to the keyboard before my brain actually kicked into gear. That said, I personally would like to hear more from all you ladies out there, we have a lot we could be sharing with each other. No offense guys, you've turned out to be great buddies too.

Hi all, I guess I'm what Tony calls a lurker!! I've been reading these posts for over a year now and still am learning lots. After a few posts early last year, I wrote my business plan, got the wife to get her cdl and leased a truck. Have just finished our first year. It has been one of my more successful years financially. Now it is time to purchase a truck.
Why don't I post? I have way too much fun reading the other posts and don't think I have much to say. Plus by the time I would post something someone else has said it!!

for the reply.

<Why don't I post? I have way too much fun reading the other posts and don't think I have much to say. Plus by the time I would post something someone else has said it!!> Now you’ve been around awhile! Ever read a post with about 10 or 15 replies? I will reply to a thread and agree with someone or that with me. That is known as moral support. Don’t you think someone asking the question may want to hear a kind word or a word of encouragement from someone that just started in this business? If for no other reason, but to let them know that it is also working for the new drivers too You don’t have to be Weave, Tony, or Rich for it to work. Besides I get tied of always hearing the same thing from Rich, Weave and myself, all the time! Would love to hear from some newer drivers, so we can also get to know you all too "LOL: All"

I've been a lurker also not feeling I had much positive to add to th e forum. I've been expediting for six months now and after the first three months I never thought I would be able to continue. One can only lose money for so long. But the last three have been getting much better. Not $100000 a year but I'm not going broke.
I will start to post more although I am not home much and no computer in the truck yet. I've learned alot from the forum and appreciate all that participate. Who cares if we can spell or have the best grammar? Keep it up all.

RE: Posts

Busy Busy times are here again,We left home on Aug 26th and ran like crazy for the last 2 weeks. All over the Country, unloaded today in Jacksonville NC and came home to Jacksonville FL for some badly needed rest. On Monday night in St Louis I turned down 5 run offers in 2 hours as they all had huge deadhead miles to the pick up locations. How about this one,we are in St louis and they wanted us to go to Rockford IL (305 miles) to pu a load to Ashfork AR. I called and said there is no way we can do that, the pay worked out to about .76 per mile and then a minimum of 150 miles after the delivery to Little Rock (shudder) or Memphis. The agent said we simply have no power anywhere so I guess there is nothing wrong with the US economy.

Hi Rich, We too have been very busy lately, had to come home to take care of business, more on that later. It does seem like we've had more offers recently with heavy deadhead miles and we're wondering if this has anything to do with the new option of layover of your choice as it seems like that's when this started. Don't get me wrong, love the new option, but sometimes it feels like you're the only truck out there! Had you thought of it this way, and if not, what is your opinion on this??

RE: Posts

Yes I have thought of that. However now that we can check power anywhere using the VRU,on the Rockford run, I checked out Rockford
(0),Bedford Park (1), Milwaukee (2), called back to tony Kluka and asked her"How come you said I was the only one available".She said they had all refused this run,so she figured I would deadhead 306 miles to the pick up,run 580 into Arkansas, then an additional 150 to a layover. Adding the 150 in pay worked out to .65 per mile..They don!t seem to understand that it costs just as much to deadhead as when you are loaded.
Did you guys order that new International yet??

RE: Posts

Oh and about the other. We also don't like being told we're the only truck or "we really need your help on this one". Like maybe we came in on the last load of turnips or something! But all in all we still like the new system better and these other things are the little annoyances that we all put up with out there on the road. Have you made any decission on what you're doing truck wise?
