The Tiki 30

My buddy and I got the Tiki 30 out for a short sea trial on the lake here in Tennessee yesterday. It is still in the finishing stages at the moment , but the pics on the Web site show the design, but we will not be this fancy as the pictures show.

Most builders use a 9 or 10 hp motor for back up, we used a 40hp on our 3200 lb catamaran and at a 25" depth, you can see we are not down in the water much.

We should be able to cruise at 25 to 35 knots without the sail with this engine. I like horsepower and in a tight, we can get going fast. So the boat is 30ft long, 16ft wide,25" in the water , enough space for 2 to 6 folks.

At about 1/3 throttle on the engine yesterday, 10 knots was easily passed, but we did not run any faster on the shake down. The 2 rudders worked great, the 4 cross beams held well.( note the 4 cross beams weigh about 80lbs each and are lashed to the hulls with ropes only. Its was a Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn moment for 2 old boys, lol,

Life is short, we will be going somewhere down the Tennessee River, destination is somewhere, thats all I know , maybe see you in the Gulf at Mobile someday....other details are in progress........
