Not sure what additives to use, but one thing I was listening to on the Truckers Radio XM was we better be carrying extra fuel filters, this new stuff is gona probably shorten your fuel filters life by how much? They said your gona want to be safe than sorry on the side of the road without anyway of cleaning them out if they do clogg.

Sounded like this is going to be reality, anyone know what to do besides carry a couple of filters????

Hmmm- I have no problem carrying an extra filter, but what is the expected problem with the ULSD fuel we should see beginning in Oct.? I would think it would be cleaner than before! The only thing I have read is that we may see less mpg cause the BTU's are lower. On a newer engine with EGR (like the current MBE 900), then maybe one would have to change filters more often, due to increased soot in the crankcase... The new oil should be out by then and it is supposed to handle the acidity.

I am not sure thats why I am asking here. Some of the products to mix with the fuel are suppost to have more wax added to them thus = coating the fine particles in these high tech filters that we use.

The fuel will be backward compatible, which means it can be used in current diesel engines, according to several industry representatives.

The new fuel has a lower lubricity factor than current diesel, but additives put in by distributors may take care of that.

The new fuel is also a better scrubbing fuel than current diesel. It will pick up more carbon deposits and may fill up the fuel filters faster than current diesel. Owners should monitor the filters until the truck runs through several tank loads.

PS. I already use Stanadyne Performance Additive which has great scrubbing characteristics and my fuel filter change cycle remains the same without any loss of performance. The additive also increases lubricity. Considering the price of injectors, fuel pumps and the labor to repair them, I consider it a worthwhile expense.

Ok- better cleaning, thanx for answer. May change both fuel filters on ISC til I know how it performs...
