The Ghosts of WWII's Past

Russian photographer Sergey Larenkov has taken old World War II photos and photoshopped them over the locations in present day. The scenes from places like Prague, Vienna, and Moscow are incredibly well done and a great way to appreciate history, to see just how war-torn it was in contrast with today.

Now that was really great. If the ghost could talk. My Dad is dying right now at a local hospital,,he was 90 in July, inthe Army air-corp in WW2, flew in those army paratrooper transports. He never said much about the war, neither did the dads on our street when we were kids. It was a bad war, to many good men and women and children died.

Sorry to hear about your dad.

Is that new avatar what you drive?

If anyone is in the South East Michigan area this weekend, over at the Yankee Air Museum will be the largest gathering of WW2 bombers since 1950's.

My dad was a major in the army air corp. He was the head dentist in the CBI,China,Burma,India campain. He had his own pilot, flew base to base to check on the other dentists. When war was over,he and his pilot were invited by Jap doctors to a big party.Pictures and relecks that he brought back were amazing.

My Dad was a C-46 pilot in the India - Burma - China theater. He passed away in May at 91. We are losing the WW 2 vets at a rapid rate. Hard to believe WW 2 ended 65 years ago.
These pictures were great. Thanks for postring the link!

I am lucky, I still have my Dad. He served with the MARS Task Force as a radio/radar operator. He too served in the CBI (China, Burma, India) He did long range patrols behind enemy lines to call in air strikes on Jap airfields among other things.

He fell the other day, nothing serious. I tried to take him to the doctor but he would not let me. Still tough and stubborn at almost 88.

This is for you FREIGHTDAWG, enjoy!! As you know, my Dad "flew the hump" in a C-46. Lots of good men fought there. We are here because of them.

How many of you actually flew a C-46/DC-3?

Not me. My Dad rode one over the "hump". He loves to tell the story about being handed a chute. They had zero training on them. They flew over the "hump" with NO DOORS on the plane. It was far below zero in that plane. When they landed it was over 100. Think about the hardships people complain about today. Like losing a cell call. OH HOW TOUGH!! LOL!! Only things I ever flew was a kite, a few model planes and rockets.
