The Clown in Chief

The Obama-rodeo clown thing was horribly offensive. Obama isn't even remotely qualified to be a rodeo clown.

Yet there wasn't a peep from the media when the same thing was done with a Bush mask and the NAACP certainly didn't ask the secret service to investigate.

There is no double standard in the media. It's all your imagination. The NAACP (notice the last two letters are the same last two that you find in CCCP) is a FINE upstanding bunch.

It gets better. Obama the Clown has been banned from future state fairs in Missouri, and the other rodeo performers have been ordered to undergo sensitivity training. Seriously. Sensitivity training.

Missouri state officials on both sides of the aisle were quick to denounce the performance, saying it was inappropriate and did not represent the values of the state’s residents.

“We are better than this,” Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, a Republican, tweeted Sunday.

There have been calls for a federal investigation into the incident.

Congressman Steve Stockman (Rep., Texas) has invited the clown to perform in his district near Houston, however.

“If you're demanding a rodeo jester be thrown in the dungeons for mocking the king, don't pretend you support a free country,” Stockman tweeted, also saying that calls for a federal investigation into the incident violate the clown's First Amendment right to free speech.

"Liberals want to bronco-bust dissent. But Texans value speech, even if it’s speech they don't agree with… [Liberals] want to crush dissent by isolating and polarizing anyone who questions Obama, even if it's a rodeo clown with a harmless gag," said Stockman in a statement.

Most of the liberals whining are from DC. They think a rodeo in Texas is a Klan rally.

I think it's more of the Dear Leader effect. We saw the same with Bush. Any criticism is regarded as tantamount to treason. No free country can survive that, or uniform/badge/military worship, ftm.

WWATD? What would Andy Taylor do?

God help me but I agree with Leo! This is the most stupid thing I have heard of in a long time. Even the NAACP wants the rodeo clown investigated! If they have nothing better to do than harrass some hayseed clown they must be in bad shape. I can remember Reagan masks, Clinton masks and of course GW Bush masks. Ridiculous.

This just another way for democrats to draw the attention away from how Obama will go down in history as the worse President ever. Obama makes Jimmy Carter look Great.

A well written article, at least in my opinion, on this subject:

Can you shoot an Obama target?

Is it legal to shoot at a picture of the president?

A boardwalk game in Seaside Heights, N.J., features a moving target of President Barack Obama. Contestants hurl baseballs in his direction. A Pennsylvania amusement company pulled atarget-shooting game last week that included Obama's image. Is it legal to take aim at a representation of the president?

Absolutely. The First Amendment protects the right to free expression, which includes the right to shoot, burn, or in any way destroy an image of anyone including the president as long you're not posing a "credible threat." The standard here is whether there is genuine intent to commit or incite violence, and also whether that violence is likely to actually occur. If there's no "clear and present danger," as Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. put it, there's no basis for censorship. So unless the Seaside Heights boardwalk is, in fact, a surreptitious assassination training ground, the game is perfectly legal.

There's a long history of threatening presidential representations. Hanging in effigy was a common form of political protest in the 18th and 19th centuries. Presidents Washington, Adams, and Jefferson were all hanged in effigy; and before the civil war, "Hang Abe Lincoln on a Sour Apple Tree" was a commonly sung parody of "John Brown's Body." (There was a similar song about Lincoln's southern counterpart, Jefferson Davis.) George W. Bush was routinely hanged and burned in effigy in the United States, including during the famous "Pants on Fire Tour" led by Ben and Jerry's co-founder Ben Cohen, who hit the road with a 12-foot tall effigy of Bush.

Flippant verbal threats against the president are similarly OK. In 1966, 18-year-old Robert Watts was at a public rally by the Washington Monument when he said, in reference to the draft, "If they ever make me carry a rifle the first man I want to get in my sights is L.B.J." He was arrested and prosecuted, but his conviction was overturned by the Supreme Court inWatts v. United States—the justices ruled that jokes about killing the president do not present a credible threat. Nearly two decades later, Ardith McPherson, a clerical worker in the office of the Constable of Harris County, Texas, was fired after she told her boyfriend, following reports of the Reagan assassination attempt, "If they go for him again, I hope they get him." McPherson sued for reinstatement claiming her First Amendment rights had been violated. The Supreme Court agreed, reiterating that comments or jokes made with no intent to act are perfectly legal free speech.

The United States Secret Service routinely investigates threats against the president. Most of these cases are dismissed quickly as not credible, meaning the individual under investigation does not truly intend to harm the president and does not have the means to do so. An Alabama teacher was suspended in May after using the example of assassinating President Obama to illustrate angles in geometry. The Secret Service investigated but then declined to pursue the case. The school admitted that the lesson had been in poor taste.

Another case from Missouri, an unexpected hotbed of free-speech suppression. Radio host Mancow has given a scholarship every year to his alma mater, Central Missouri State. The Obammunist spoke there recently, and they stationed security guards at the entrances with instructions to query those wanting to enter if they were fans of the Obammunist. If they indicated they weren't, or if they had on a T-shirt with a conservative message, they were denied entrance. These were students with tickets. Mancow tore up his next check to the university.

Another radio host, Dana Loesch, says she can't even criticize Missouri's senator on a St. Louis station without the manager getting a call from his office.

And don't forget, it's now illegal to demonstrate in the presence of anyone eligible for Secret Service protection...these people want us to just shut the hey-ell up.

I'm guessing if obama started a pointless war, other than to make the wealthy exceedingly more wealthy, killing thousands of children, spending billions of dollars. Then all of you so called "critics" might respect him.Or is it just the color of his skin that bugs all of you.Or maybe he can just bankrupt the country like Bush did to not only america in less than 8 years. But EVERY COMPANY he was handed.

What war did Bush start? Everything in the Middle East can be traced back LONG before Bush was president, and much of it since prior to his birth.

World events move VERY slowly. They span decades, or longer. They involve FAR more than one lousy president like Bush was.

I wonder how long your screen name will be allowed to stand? Interesting nic, nice play to get around the filters!
