July 31, 2009 Obama's revealing body language (updated and expanded))

Thomas Lifson
This picture truly is worth at least a thousand words.

afterbeers_PS-0436.jpg

I am stunned that the official White House Blog published this picture and that it is in the public domain. The body language is most revealing.

Sergeant Crowley, the sole class act in this trio, helps the handicapped Professor Gates down the stairs, while Barack Obama, heedless of the infirmities of his friend and fellow victim of self-defined racial profiling, strides ahead on his own. So who is compassionate? And who is so self-involved and arrogant that he is oblivious?

In my own dealings with the wealthy and powerful, I have always found that the way to quickly capture the moral essence of a person is to watch how they treat those who are less powerful. Do they understand that the others are also human beings with feelings? Especially when they think nobody is looking.

Update from Thomas Lifson:

I think this photo constitutes another major Obama blunder.

As some AT commentators point out, this picture becomes a metaphor for ObamaCare. The elderly are left in the back, with only the kindness of the Crowleys of the world, the stand up guys, to depend on. The government has other priorities.

One of the major subtexts of the health care debate involves the public's fear of indifferent, powerful bureaucrats ruling their lives. It is one thing to wait in line at the DMV to find out which other line you should wait in, in order to begin the process of waiting for multiple bureaucrats to go through the motions of processing your request. I have spent entire afternoons going through this process.

But when we get to health care, waiting often means enduring pain and dysfunction longer than necessary, sometimes a worsening of the condition, and sometimes death.

That's why I think this image will have genuine resonance. It captures something that older Americans in particular can relate to. The President presses ahead with a program that will tell them to take painkillers instead of getting that artificial hip.

At every stage of the entire Gates affair, Obama has provided a revealing tell. The "acted stupidly" blunder revealed that he automatically blames the police and thinks they really are stupid to begin with. It didn't trigger a single alarm bell in his mind as he figured out what to say.

Then, the non-apology apology revealed an arrogant man who cannot do what honest people do: admit it when they make a mistake.

Now at stage three, the beer photo op looked OK. It didn't turn into a disaster.

But then in a small moment that nobody in the White House had the brains to understand, Obama goes and send a body language message like this.

I think he is going to get deeper and deeper into trouble. He is no longer repeating the familiar scripts dreamed up for the campaign. He was a master performer.

But when he goes improv, as a president must do, he lets his true character show. This helps widen the level of doubt that Obama is the same guy a majority voted for. Those doubts can only grow.

Andrew McCarthy has assembled an overwhelming case that Obama has lied about who he is. I predict that more and more Americans will become open to the argument that they have been had by a sophisticated and ruthless effort to foist a phony on America.

How is he a class act?

He caved in and showed no backbone by refusing to go there.

I may be a lonely old truck driver but there comes a time when you have to stand on doing the right thing and not be used.

Gates is going to write a book about this, his speaking engagements have been booked for the next few months and Harvard is leveraging the entire Black Studies program through this clever promotion.

I don't know if any of you actually read the comments of Obama in full but he made a comment that the cops needed to take in consideration of the culture of the person they are dealing with. This is the same thing that they have been doing here in Detroit, trying to justify crime that was committed because of the culture they live in.

I like the obvious reference to Obama care. He is a total waste of DNA and it's a shame either of them were fertile.

Has anyone else noticed that when the current resident of the White House speaks he often has his "nose in the air" looking down on his "subjects" in a way that truely reminds me of a similar leader from the late 1930's and early 40's that lead Italy down the path of doom!! VERY similar speaking style. It DOES fit!!

There is a good book that was written in 33 by the guys who orchestrated FDR's appearances as governor on the presidential campaign. I don't have it here with me but it really details everything from the placement of subordinates to how the camera is used to how to instill a psychology of visual propaganda. Obama isn't using anything new, he has just found the right people to advise him.

He also has total control of the media. Even Fox is moving futher to the left every day. 1935 Europe all over again. The outcome is likely to be the same.

The "Puppet Master" has spent a LOT of money having his "puppet" trained.

Also, who in here has EVER gone to an "informal" "beer talk" dressed like that? That would be one beer I could skip!!

I don't get why people think Fox is so right wing, they have covered a lot of left things, like Micheal Jackson to the point I am ready to vomit.

As for 1935 all over again, please please learn about England from 1902 (king Edward) to the 1960's. It is unbelievable that they lived under soviet style media control for almost 65 years. There was a BBC commentator who got into a lot of trouble in 1938 for criticizing the crown, they pulled him off the air and jailed him for 15 years.

I don't think we have to worry about things going that far until AFTER the 2012 election. IF King Putz the 1st is re-elected then, WATCH OUT!! THAT is when it is going to hit the fan. Until then he is under orders from the "Puppet Master" to "STAY COOL" until they have total control. It is entirely possible that 2012 could be our LAST election held under what is left of our Constitution. UNLESS, we take back control in 2010 and 2012.

Leo, don't be bashful about how you feel. That's one of the funniest lines I've seen in awhile. Long live the 1st amendment.
