The American Dream

This is in regards to the Post Up front Expenses.

No Secret I changed carriers. The information I was told average driver does about 1,700 a week. Well people thats not the American Dream according to others posts here as matter of fact run the numbers. My expenses starting out not including my upfront costs down payment toys as some might say on the truck that refered to as cost saving equipment, was and is now higher since fuel has gone up 20% was back in December $1,100 a week this included my health ins. truck payment, fuel (ideling at that time with some miles) phone, etc.. If you can make it on $600. or less a week than congradulations.

I personally cannot but if you can you are really living the American Dream. Could you ever really go out and purchase a new Chevy Silverado and pay Cash? How about that real nice vacation lets say once every two years? The unexpedted break down or the Alligator that grabbed your steer figure that into the big ole $600 a week profit.

This figure also has NO ROOM for any I mean ANY MC/Visa intrest expense all cash, pay as you go. This really is not my idea of the American Dream based on $1,700 a week.

Now if I accept employment 40 hours a week M-F at home with no responsibilty but to show up than OK someone not I might settle for less. $15.00 an hour plus over time when asked.

We as Expeditors running solo have no choice if you have a truck payment but to GROSS min 120K or more a year. Any less and you will be out of business.

I encourage anyone doing less to please post, but please let us also know how much your savings account has gone up in these wonderull times as well. I will say this yeah I can make it on less but I am jeoperdizing my future by doing so.

Excellent post on the current reality within the trucking industry. I think making a living is possible, but getting rich and living the high life are a stretch. Some like to keep everything "positive" but you can't be blinded by some of the stark realities within the industry. I thing Broompilot makes a clear observation with this.
Every year it gets tougher and tougher to turn a profit. Every cost within ones business has risen. With few exceptions, rates have been the same for the last 5 years.
Again, an excellent post on expediting reality and your experiences
