Nope... and I wouldn't feel guilty one bit. Twas an honest error on an incredible shot. No reason to spoil it for the kids.

I am not trying to play holier than thou but I don't think I would have had my other kid go up there. That is more because of my greed and I would worry about this exact situation where I may not get the money.

What was honest about it? What spoiled it for the kids was faking it to start with, not anything that came after. It actually deprived someone else of the chance at the money. In the end the farther corrected his mistake, did what was right and taught his kids a lesson that could be worth more than the 50 grand over their lifetime..

Oh yeah... $50k lesson. Real bright!

The father committed fraud, it wasn't an honest mistake like you see more often in a game like golf where the winner had an extra club in his bag. When you look at what the father said I think he was more worried about getting caught than he was concerned with doing the right thing.

whats kinda sad is that in teaching his sons a leason in honesty, A leason only being taught because he pushed his son to be dishonest in the first place. He is telling the son that made the shot I really did not belive you could make that shot.:D

He should have asked in advance to get permission for the twin to try the shot, and explained the circumstances. Who knows, they might have let it go anyway. However, he made it right in the end and the kids know it.

what is really the big deal . THE KID MADE THE SHOT ON HIS OWN . no cheating there. that is what it is all about . not what name made the shot .

so next it will be you trade sets with somebody for what ever reason and then they call your old seat number to win a prize . do you get the prize or does the one in it now get it .

The kid never should have taken the shot to make it in the first place.

The issue is not that the kid made the shot, but that the rules were specific: the person whose NAME was on the ticket was the one called to take the shot. The kid whose name was called was outside. You can't substitute for someone. That the rep is even considering looking into whether the kid had a reasonable excuse for not being present (re: puking up nachos, etc) is more than fair.

""Pat Smith, had bought a raffle ticket"" so what is a raffle ticket .

last i knew you buy a ticket and you win if your ticket is pulled .

where did you see the rules at in that article

""Odds on Promotions, the insurance carrier for the event, had not yet indicated whether it would accept Nate making the shot in his brother's name.""

they are waiting to see how many people cry and for which side . and they are waiting to hear from their lawyer to see if they could be held legally for this if they say NO . to check the fine print

""Promotional prize insurance is insurance for a promotion where the participants are offered the chance to win prizes""

need to have insurance now for raffle tickets .
keep thinking inside the box

The first paragraph says the ticket was registered to the other brother, I guess you didn't read that far.

Tickets like that always belong to the person whose name is on the ticket. Nice to write rules as you go but life doesn't work that way.

When large chance prizes are involved insurance is purchased by the promoters for a percentage of the actual prize cost. If the prize is legally won the insurance pays the full amount of the prize. It has been happening this way for more than two decades that I know of and probably much longer than that.

A long time ago in a different world there was some guy who cheated on a game show and eventually his integrity was questioned so one day he went in front of this group of people and told the truth. Everyone applauded him, acted like he did a great thing but one person, who said to him in front of everyone;

"Mr. Van Doren, I am happy that you made the statement, but I cannot agree with most of my colleagues who commended you for telling the truth, because I don't think an adult of your intelligence ought to be commended for telling the truth."

Regardless if the kid made the shot or not, which really doesn't matter - it matters that his parents and the kid himself lacks any integrity in the first place.

Let's see, lack of honesty and integrity? The kid reminds me of career politicians. He has a GREAT future.
