Tax Question

I'm new to expediting and I was curious about the tax write-offs you get as a driver. I lease a sprinter van from a fleet owner. Owner pays fuel, 40/60. Drive for Load One.

I used John Turner and still do every year even though I retired 9 years ago. He specializes in trucking taxes and knows how to optimize for the benefit of the driver/owner. A little more expensive but worth it to me to know they were done correctly and not have to do a ton of work myself.

Not an accountant but I believe the most you can write off as a contract driver is your per diem if you're staying out overnight. Unless you're purchasing things like straps or additives for the vehicle that you are not being reimbursed for.

Best to speak to an accountant and make sure you save all of your receipts.
