I talked to Glen and Janice Rice today. He is back driving again in a E-unit for National Van Lines moving airplane engines and other things. I talked to Janice on Facebook and Glen on the phone. Janice says she miss's Expediting and all the great people she met over the years with Roberts Express/FedEx Custom Critical. She told me she plans to go back out on the road with Glen in the truck but as a rider only. Janice gave me Glens number and I called him about an hour later, Glen said his cell phone was about to die and could he call me back in 30 minutes.

Well, Glen called back about 20 minutes later and we talked about the good old days with Robert Express and the friends we made with different people over the years. We talked about Norma and Herny Church, Lawrence Mc Cord, Dan Jones, Phil and Diana Madsen, Dave Corfman, and many more great people in this business. He told me about the group of people that drove down to Fl to move him and Janice into his new house when he was really sick. He told me that was something nice done by a group of great people.

I asked Glen why don't he post on EO anymore? He said I'm not an Expediter anymore, I said Glen you will always be an Expediter. Once an Expediter you will always be an Expediter. No matter what company you drive for, they are always telling you to hurry up and get the load to the delivery(meaning your company). It was nice to talk to two great people that have been threw hell the last few years. Glad to see them back on the road doing what they love, moving freight again.

My father is a doctor. He practiced medicine for 50 years, retiring about 7 years ago. He is an extremely good doctor and has been called to discuss cases by internationally known physicians. What's the point? Well, 1. not only is my dad the best dad in the world he's one of the best doctors and 2. even though he's retired from practicing medicine he's still a doctor and still has all that knowledge and experience inside his brain. One is important to me and two is important because I know Glen has a brain full of expediting just as my dad has a brain full of physicianing. Bottom line, he's every bit as much of this community as anyone else. Here's hoping he comes back to share some of his significant knowledge with us.

Thats really great to hear that Glen is now with National Van Lines. I had no idea they did airplane engines. He must be doing the smaller engines for private and corporate aircraft.

Glen was quite helpful and instrumental in helping with our decision to buy the large sleeper tractor we now own. We had originally planned to build it up into a CR-unit and if anyone could give the best advice on that, it would be Glen.

I'm courious as to how he was able to go back into tractor trailers after so many years in a straight truck. You know, with the insurance requirements regarding allowable time away from T/Ts. If I remember correctly, Phil had told me that Glen was driving T/T for Swift's Ocala,FL terminal when he came back out on the road after the accident. If that's so, I assume he had to go through a retraining phase with a trainer/team driver?

I'm sure you are correct Dave.I would imagine that Swift (if that's correct) was a stepping stone company for Glen to get back into T/Ts with the better carriers for insurance reasons like so many that go from T/Ts to straights and back again.
