I used to do hazmat removal from buildings years ago and I still have a couple of the suits and masks. Guess I could wear one while at the truckstop doing my business. Think it would impact their business with me wandering around with a mask and sealed suit with HAZMAT on the back?

This one could get loose but I wonder if it would ever kill as many as the 1918 one did. Only because we have a much better idea of how to care for those who get sick now. Many then died of de-hydration and these days we use IV fluids to counter-act that. It could get bad but I don't see a repeat, at least in the US and Canada of that last big one. Layoutshooter
Sadly...We need something to kill off a few million people...we are not having a "major" war....something has to give.....so many people crowded into the big cities....
This could easily get out of hand in some areas and cities and completely swamp medical services. With todays capabilities to travel it could show up in so many different places almost instantly. They have a couple in Montreal in quarantine who just returned from Mexico and were displaying signs of illness.

You know OVM, IF I was one of the so-called Right Wing nuts, what ever that is, I would be saying that this flu is a plot by the UN and the worlds' governments to give them the chance to impose all kinds of restrictions on us and limit our movements. It is the final step to the imposition of a one world government. They developed this flu to kill off as many as they could to make thier take over easier. The speach that Obama makes will be a great one, at least 6 tele-promters to keep him on track. Shoot, I bet that he can even come up with a way to say that private gun ownership is spreading the flu. LOL!!! Layoutshooter
LayoutshooterSome reports are saying that this is not as dangerous as the SARS problem a few years ago. I remember my Mother talking about the 1918 Flu, she said they were stacking people at the curbside for trucks to pick up the bodies because the Coroners just couldn't keep up.

Now, on the flip side of that same coin, the Left Wing radicals, (can't be free radicals since that left does not like any freedom) like Obama and CO., are going to say that this flu is a right wing extremist plot to commit genocide on the minority populations in the big cities and to kill as many non-whites world wide. The WHO has declared a concern, not an all out epidemic (I hate the word Pandemic for some reason).
They have said they have some options to control it, one is shutting down Mexico's border and the other is to restrict travel to and from Mexico, both may be needed to protect the world.
The real issue here is as much as I feel for the Mexicans, and hope that this actually passes without the predicted death and destruction, but I have to ask why are people still traveling there when it is a dangerous place to go?
Speaking of the CDC, they don't have a vaccine for H1N1 influenza, to be exact there is no vaccine for the pig flu.
To add to this, we are seeing the same old guilt trip from the press;

Not as yet, Greg. One artical I read said that they have a pre-curser to it and that a vaccine could go into production in 4-6 months. One saving grace here is that we are coming into the summer period. The flu does not do as well in summer as in winter. One rather easy way to help prevent contracting air-borne desieses is to keep your nostrels moist. A virus has a harder time attaching itself to moist memebranes. At least according to my doctor. There is one more issue that goes along with this new flu. Our way too open border with Mexcio. We have millions streaming in here in open defiance of our laws. Those numbers are likely to increase if that flu takes hold. One to get away from it, you know, panic and two because they know that the American tax payer will pay for the medical care. We must close that border and right now. If that flu takes off it will no longer just be a security issue but a very real public health problem. I doubt that our inept congress and admiistration will act quickly on this, if at all. They don't live in the real world. This IS thier responsibility, if they don't do it we may be forced to take action ourselfs. We must be prepared IF the flu really gets going. The government must do what they should have years ago, CLOSE THAT BORDER!!
