Sweeping The "Dirt" Under The Rug ....

In shades of something straight out of Stalinist Russia, the Department of Defense has apparently adopted the practice of declaring alleged rape victims "crazy" .... and then using that to justify booting them out of the service .... rather than seeking to uphold the Rule of Law and deliver justice:

Rape victims say military labels them 'crazy'

(CNN) -- Stephanie Schroeder joined the U.S. Marine Corps not long after 9/11. She was a 21-year-old with an associate's degree when she reported for boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina.

"I felt like it was the right thing to do," Schroeder recalls.

A year and a half later, the Marines diagnosed her with a personality disorder and deemed her psychologically unfit for the Corps.

Anna Moore enlisted in the Army after 9/11 and planned to make a career of it. Moore was a Patriot missile battery operator in Germany when she was diagnosed with a personality disorder and dismissed from the Army.

Jenny McClendon was serving as a sonar operator on a Navy destroyer when she received her personality disorder diagnosis.

These women joined different branches of the military but they share a common experience:

Each received the psychiatric diagnosis and military discharge after reporting a sexual assault.

"I'm not crazy," says Schroeder, who is married now, with two daughters. "I am actually relatively normal."

McClendon says she had a similar reaction.

"I remember thinking this is absurd; this is ridiculous. How could I be emotionally unstable? I'm very clear of mind, especially considering what had happened." McClendon says. "It was a ludicrous diagnosis."

Of course, since I picked up this story (which is actually reported by CNN) originally from antiwar.com, that's likely prima facie evidence - in itself alone - that this is some nefarious disinformation campaign, designed to overthrow the US government and bring the downfall of the empire, and is likely being coordinated and run from the highest levels of Kremlin.

That comment is BS...ill support our military in any fashion i can as will my sons and the rest of our family, but none of us or anyone with any sense is going to say they are 100% above reproach...I totally believe this is an effort to CYA on the militarys part..just as "tailhook" was and several other instances of this type of thing...is it right? Nope....but it is "engrained" and it is politicial and chances are while all it "swept" under the rug, and it gets exposed, it ain't goin to change....as i said, its "politics" and under the control of the elite and those of power....

Oh and as far as it being "some nefarious disinformation campaign, designed to overthrow the US government and bring the downfall of the empire, and is likely being coordinated and run from the highest levels of Kremlin." Nah, it is just the "good ole boys" attempt at CYA...and it aint goin to change a bit....even when it is pointed out....

BS is in the eye of the beholder ....

It is certainly rhetoric .... and was intended to be satirical ....

ill support our military in any fashion i can as will my sons and the rest of our family, but none of us or anyone with any sense is going to say they are 100% above reproach ....
I'm all for support .... when it is deserved ....

Can't say that I have much use for blind worship however .... particularly worship of power ....

I totally believe this is an effort to CYA on the militarys part .. just as "tailhook" was and several other instances of this type of thing ...
Yup .... pretty much ....

is it right? Nope .... but it is "engrained" and it is politicial and chances are while all it "swept" under the rug, and it gets exposed, it ain't goin to change ....
The larger issue is what it says about us as a culture .... particularly if what you assert about it not changing ultimately turns out to be true .... (which is not a foregone conclusion BTW)

Fact of the matter is that there has been a dramatic rise in the number of sexual assaults in the military in a relatively short period of time:

U.S. Army: Sex Crimes By Soldiers Up 97 Percent In Five Years

That is possibly a reflection of what being intimately involved with the military can do - by virtue of what military training/participation does to (some) people. I would argue that, by it's very nature, it is dehumanizing (.... by necessity ....)

From my perspective it just a reflection of the moral degradation and wholesale loss of values that we are experiencing as a nation and a culture.

as i said, its "politics" and under the control of the elite and those of power ....
You do understand that this is a position that is diametrically opposed to your stance as an arborist and tree pruner don't ya ... ? ;)

Politics are under the control of those who are willing and choose to do something about it (.... whatever "it" is ....)

As one of our esteemed members correctly notes in his signature line:

"One of the penalties of not participating in politics is that you will be governed by your inferiors" - Plato

Oh and as far as it being "some nefarious disinformation campaign, designed to overthrow the US government and bring the downfall of the empire, and is likely being coordinated and run from the highest levels of Kremlin." Nah, it is just the "good ole boys" attempt at CYA ... and it aint goin to change a bit .... even when it is pointed out....
That's actually a rather apathetic state of mind ....

Why even bother voting .... ?

I am not going to bother breaking it all down because for the most part you are right, and i wasn't trying to dispute it..but i will say that our military is trained to destory and kill and they go to great lengths to do the best they can in that training...as it should be, yes it can be dehumanizing, oh well, some can take it some cant....

as for the increase, its not a surprise and as you pointed out and i agreed, its swept under the rug, and yea it will continue (the assaults) and will continue to be.....(swept under the rug)..and yes it does speak to "a reflection of the moral degradation and wholesale loss of values that we are experiencing as a nation and culture. And your point is?? All nations and cultures fall, and most all from the "inside" and the 'loss of values and morals as a culture", is more then often one of the major reason....it ain't nothing new....

Yea ill stand for pruning the tree, but we don't "elect" our military generals, they rise up throught the ranks and are some of the best as the destroying and killing, as it should be and thank God...notice i said Generals and not leaders, because the only military leader elected is the CIC, and the one in the position now is ..well he just is...

Apathetic? Maybe, but maybe more just a fact of how we have evolve or de-evolved if that makes you feel better..."why even bother voting?" Again because we don't elect our military generals....and its human nature to CYA....no matter if its the right thing to do our not....

and really, i think "Cynical" rather then "apathetic" would be a better word, as as you said it speaks to what we has a nation and culture have become...and really a large part of society really doesn't care one way or another..just like it is with most things when it comes to the what we have allowed the government to become....most would rather just watch TV....yea alot will biotch but in the end, "American Idol" is more important to them....and on 2nd thought, it is "Apathetic".....
