Well I was at my fixit shop, I needed a new alternator and battery and tune-up..I looked at the list of things they'd done for the tune-up and I noticed that they have never changed the fuel filter! So I says to them why not? And SURPRISE!! Dodge had a better idea in the 1997's and up...
the filter is IN THE GAS TANK!!! I says "WHAT!!!" Yup thats right to help out not going thru fuel pumps Dodge figured they'd put the filter before the pump to give the pump some extended life. nice in theory but??? Completely unserviceable!! Considering I am on the original fuel pump just maybe this wasn't such a bad idea? 300,000 miles on it now.

Taz..to date I haven't experienced any fuel delivery problems. I guess by adding a second filter I'd have the cleanest burning gas in town. But it doesn't solve the first problem, if the first filter gets clogged the cost to change it is...well you know...*L*

doesn't chevy and gmc have that filter in the tank as well? I was surprised that dodge had them there as well. Dropping the fuel tank to change a filter does seem like a bit of a task.

GM vans have the filter along the frame rail between the tank (pump) and engine.

(ask me how I know!) ;)
