Super D

Well, my Super D is coming close to being reality. Now all I need is a pup trailer. I've done alot of searching, but could only find a couple that are to proper specs. If anyone can give me info on where else to search, I'd appreciate it.
I need air ride, e-track, 28-36', and not more than 10 years old.

Thanx,
T-Hawk

I'm sure you know of these 2 sights, but just in case.

I found a couple of pups on those sights a while back that would have worked. The air ride is what seems to be hard to find on the pup trailers. Keep in mind, you can add the E-track if everything else is there.

The ultimate truck deseves the ultimate trailer. You really need to contact Blackburn Trailer Sales in Louisville Ky. I haven't talked to Doug in a few years, but he is the GURU! Kentucky website can direct you to a Kentucky dealer in your area. This would be a trailer of the same quality and stateur that the Electronics Haulers use. Once you've owned a Kentucky it's difficult to buy anything else. They know how to put together your package with no problem at all. Save the hassle and do it right the first time. Drive safe and be profitable!

I was just looking at www.kytrailer.com at their "city mover" model. It looks like a great trailer for a super d unit. I don't know what it would take to get into one but they have a contact page on the website for further information. Good luck with your project.

Hawk, from this note sounds like you are already set. If the deal with the conatct I gave you on the rig did not work out for some reason let me know. I know others who will take it on.

Called KY Trailer, and they said I'm looking at around 30k. JEEZ!!! For a simple pup??? I'm not asking for a bulletproof survellance vehicle! Glen, I tried Blackburn's and their number was disconnected. Hope your friend is still doing ok with his business. Thanx for the responses so far... I'll keep looking. :)

After looking again I don't know that the city mover is dock high. Wouldn't be so good if it isn't. I suspect they could do one that is though. Pulled with an Argosy it would be a very compact package.

I would be careful teaming a pup with a cabover. When that combo is empty expect to be bounced all over the place. Freightliner cabover is probably the smoothest ride on a cabover but there are much better options.

Actually, if I were doing this, I'd probably go with a Western Star LowMax model. I like the look and the lower climb to get in.

I just want to know the operating cost of a large truck. Cost of conversion included plus cost of trailer and cost of extra tires, brakes ect. Seems all the extra moving parts cost would just take away from your overhead.

It's hard to imagine anything bouncing you worse than what I'm driving. Some roads aren't fit for animal drawn carts much less our trucks... and that's on the interstate highway system! Wouldn't like it though if it's any rougher ride than my current ride.

DJ...I'm working on the carrier now. I'll have pics up when it's finally made.

Leo, I'm in an FL-106 right now, and that thing bounces like crazy in pothole ridden truckstops. But if you think yours is bad, try an FL70 or 80. They don't call em Freightshakers for nothin. It was hard sleeping when I was running teams... and I sleep through wars, Bubba ROFL.

The tractor I'm looking at to do this with is a long-nose Pete. I like the idea, and the thought of how it's gonna look. But I also love the fact that Petes are reliable as hell. Business is good, gents ;)

Good lcuk,
I talked to Express-1 on this and they said they wouldn't be interested in this sort of set up, I am looking to do something similar but I am still sorting out all the details.

Larry,

I picked up a copy of Truck Marketnews November issue at the truckstop. It has an Infinity AX on the cover. In the first few pages are quite a few pup trailers. Not sure if any are the specs you want but you might want to grab a copy of that magazine and look through it. Are you going to pull it for Express-1? Good luck.

I am interested in this set up but so far noone would want to lease on this sort of equipment, at least none of the bigger names I have talked to. Let us know what you come up with

I never talked to any of the bigger names about a Super D setup, but if I might ask you Dkcoak, what were the reasons the bigger names gave you for not wanting to take on this type of unit?
Thanks!

They didn't give a reason just said they won't lease on that sort of equipment. Personally I don't see why not. I think this sort of set up as well as many others would increase thier capicity and flexibility.

Hawk, why don´t you just go with a 48´, and be done with it. There are plenty of those old air rides around at great prices. I have a friend who bought a 48´ with a liftgate and shortened it. He ran a super D with the old Roberts Express and did quite well. Might work for you and you´ll get the trailer you want.

I can't see why they wouldn't unless there is some liability issues with insurance. They might think you will add another and be a complete double. That in itself will effect the insurance rate.
I will have to ask around and see if that is an issue.
