Straight Truck B-unit?

I spotted this truck at a delivery yesterday. The owner uses it to travel from show to show selling his barbeque sauce. The storage area behind the cab is for product storage. It is wide enough for two skids and can be loaded with a fork lift. It opens full wide from both sides. He has E-Track on the front and rear walls of the storage area. He started with a straight truck, removed the box, turned it into a flatbed, and built what you see on top of the bed. I do not think many expediting carriers would approve this rig as a B-unit, but it gets you ta think'n.

The operations manager at my company said they had a couple that used a Fun Mover as a B-unit for a while. Fun Movers are a motorhome with a "garage" in the back. 7 to 9 MPG would eat into the profit a bit too much for my likeing.

Not only the mileage but I am sure they had to log and pay the high dollar insurance for surely being over 10,000 GVWR. Must have been professional tourists?

Looks and sounds to me like the owner was using this truck registered as a recreational vehicle for business (commercial) use and cleverly hiding the commercial fact. Vehicles registered as recreational are not subject to CMV rules regardless of size or gross vehicle weight. But if it is hauling product to distribute or sell, they better be VERY careful with this type of business, it is being heavily cracked down on the highways today in many states who have become wise to it.
