story from the engine replacement

i swung by the goodyear shop yesterday. lots of parts from the front end laying around on the floor next to the van. talking to the mech he says....

i was in here saturday and your van surprised us he says
why, i ask?
well we were all working and all of a sudden your van starts beeping.
beeping? like qul-com beeping(then i realize they wouldn't necessarily know the q-c beep)
yeah beeping and the funny thing is the battery is disconnected.
....so it wasn't the qualcom.....
yeah we couldn't find the source of the beeping but three of us heard it coming from the van. it was coming from the doghouse.
"did you open the doors to get fresh air in here" i asked, realizing it was the carbon monoxide detector going off.

i was looking at the radiator and it is about 1/4 closed up thru the cooling fins. lots of crud in-between and on top of the fins. they will back pressure clean it but that is the kind of cleaning you can only do when the rad is out of the truck. mebbe that bug screen rev dave has is a good idea.

moose maybe by the end of the week. timing cover had to be replaced as it had no mounting point for the ps pump. the cover was for the high output mustang 4.6.

here is another story........dropped off a set of hella 530 fogs. i was bs'in with one of the guys about custom lighting in the grille. i said i wanted, " two stacks of three. the top right pointing to the rear view of the car ahead of me, the two in the middle pointing at the outside mirrors and the remaining three were to point towards oncoming traffic". the pepsi came flying :eek:from him...........

a note about the old engine...the cam lobes, valves and springs all showed no wear marks. if it was not for the thrust bearing that engine had many more miles in it. unlike the tdi that was made with soft metal and show lobe marks at 94K miles.
