I've got a small stone chip in the windshield,no cracks, smaller then a dime, is there any way to fix it short of replacing? thanks for any suggestions.

Any auto glass shop can fix it, most have a mobile unit that will come to you. You might want to look in the yellow pages of the local phone book or online for a shop near you.

We have a couple small dings in our windshield, we have not had them repaired and they have not gotten any worse. Stone chips are just one of those things that happen when your on the road as much as we are.

Thanks I'll check into it, last time it also cracked the windshield and had to replace it.

would highly recommend repair. stone chips left alone can suddenly grow. vibration is useally the culpret. but a hot day can give suprising growth. haven't needed on this truck yet but had several done on my first truck. felt it was money well spent. most auto parts stores have do it yourself repair kits avail. not sure about them.

Blu, if you have insurance through Panther give them a call. It may be cheaper to replace the glass than to have the chip fixed.

It is definitely cheaper to fix the chip than to replace the windshield.

I know that Safelite or Diamond/Triumph has mobile units that come to you. The last I knew, in PA, Diamond charged $25 to repair a chip.

it should be covered under your insurance ,
i Had my windshield replaced 4 months ago,
all i had to do is give the insurance a call ,
the mobile unit came to my truck,
Did not effect my rates.

I just tried a over the counter thing from Wally World. It sorta worked. Cost was $9.99. It was a rather large chip, about the size of a quarter, with several "legs" off the main chip. It was about two weeks old. The kit filled most of the chip. The instructions said it needed to be done in the first 12 hours for best results. It also said it should not have be exposed to washer fuilds etc. Mine had been. There is more than enough "stuff" for more repairs. It will be interesting to see how it works if done right. At least it is sealed now. Puts off the new windshield for a few more months. Layoutshooter

Sometime the problem with not fixing them is that the wind will get between the layers of glass and help (hurt) the spider effect.
