This was an article from the St. Petersburg Times Newspaper on Sunday. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix the Economy?" I thought this was the BEST idea. I think this guy nailed it!

Dear Mr. President,

Here is how I would fix the economy:

Patriotic retirement

There's about 40 million people over age 50 in the work force ; pay them $1 million apiece severance with three stipulations:

1) They leave their jobs.

Forty million job openings.

Unemployment fixed.

2) They buy NEW American cars.

Forty million cars ordered.

Auto Industry fixed.

3) They either buy a house or pay off their mortgage.

Housing Crisis fixed.

All National financial problems fixed!!!

Sincerely,
A Fellow American

Ok... makes a lot of sense. Pay 40 million ppl $1mil each, that costs $40 TRILLION. Sorry... the baby boomers cost my generation and younger enough money! I don't need my kids slaving away to pay someone else's tab. I'm already paying for my dad's SocSec, as DC had to tap that many years ago.

Bad idea.

Considering maybe 30% to 40% of them 40 million are married with spouses that could chopped in half if limited to household...
With a rate deduction by last years tax forms....anyone with a say $250,000 joint income would be excluded....it would make it more workable...

maybe I am just to tight with my money but with $1 million I could invest (odd ball joint adventures that might create more jobs) buy a house (easily) and still have enough left over to invest into a safe CD or saving (thus live off intrest and not capitol) but buying a new american car might be tricky. I mean is there a car company that builds their cars 100% in the USA, and is 100% USA based??? How can the "big 3" claim to be american anymore when you look at all the factories that are closed in the USA as in favor to opening in China, Mexico, and other countries??? And now typing this I have a question(my young mind cannot comprehend things somethimes, most of you on this forum have 20+ yrs on me) If the "big 3" are more global than USA then why dont they get a bailout from the global market?? I mean gheesh they want a bail out from the USA taxpayer and yet they moved a lot of jobs out of the USA that generates taxs that are you used in this bailout?? Kinda like a kick to the butt after a slap to the face if you ask me??

then why dont they get a bailout from the global market??

They shouldn't have gotten a bailout from anyone, they should have been left to go bankrupt, and come back in re-organization...and ford hasn't asked for any government money, not yet anyhow.......
