Still looking!!!!

Hello, people it's me, Duwayne Owens and after now five months still haven't got a driving job yet. Got several reply's but as long as you have a truck that can be leased on your hired. But for a driver that's been off the road for the last ten years you don't have a snowballs chance in hell to get that driving job. But in the last couple of days two men have called to see if I was still looking and I happily said yes. They have said fine I will let u know. One owner said that I would need up front money to live off of and pay for fuel and other expenses. The other said he would send my name in to the company that the truck was lease on to and send me some email. But no call from the lease company or the owner for the email. For the last few months everyday I get on this thing to fill out applications and no calls yet. Got a friend that's looking for a stright truck and no luck. So if all these companies and owners that's looking for drivers how come I'm still sitting here. Please call me! I'm dieing here still. Hate being at home, watching tv. Don't have any money to even live off of. I get paid on the 3th of each month an on the 4th already broke and still no food to eat for the rest of the month.. So if u need a good driver that can stay out longer the 5-6 weeks call me. Looking for a sprinter owner that will lease out or sale on payments or just to drive.. Thanks Duwayne Owens

Duwayne hope the above post works for you.. No one can say why all those company's or owners arnt calling... I could give you a guess...Maybe the work load just isn't there right now for a owner to go thru the process? Carriers want trucks that come with a body inside them..That one guy was correct in saying you will need money up front to live on..He isn't going to pay you until his truck gets paid...As far as fuel money and expenses that's up to you to work out before you become a body in his truck.. If I was you I would spend the time looking for work instead of sitting at home waiting for work to come to you.. Work isn't that great right now in this industry.. Of course there are cheerleaders for the industry its not a dead industry but at any given time it can go sour for even the biggest fleet out here. You said stay out 5-6 weeks and that's fine if its what you really want to do... But think that out of a work week (7 days) you may get 3 or 4 loads some weeks. That leaves you sitting 3 or 4 days some weeks... Not going to be a fun 5-6 weeks when that happens. If you enter this business make sure what ever you set up that it fits you and the truck owner... I hear horror stories from drivers that say they can't go home until its home time.. I say bull when dispatch fails to keep freight on the truck its time to go home and start again next week. Yep I lose with this line of thinking but the carrier loses also by not having use of the truck. Its not cheap sitting out here, or running freight so cheap that it would be better for me to cut a check to the carrier and tell them to let someone else haul it. Figure out the area the carrier has some sort of customer base and try to stick to that otherwise when you go a bit to deep for them they won't care how or when you get back to their area for another load offer. If you get tied in with a carrier running elogs as a single driver even the smallest/shortest of loads are going to become a chore, unless it delivers straight in, you may find yourself turning down loads because it will no longer be worth starting another log page just to drop the load and head to a safe haven. You said its been ten years, you just maybe surprised as to what has changed out here...I personally call it getting uglier with each passing day.. Anything from running for the same or less rates then when I started,, Cost of living,, cost of maintance,, amount of miles not being paid without a call in to correct it,, accessory charges not being paid... The list could go on and on...

Interviews are critical......we get judged on our words, opinionated folks may not get hired because they can come over as know it alls and so on. Let the person doing the interview do most of the talking and pick up on his or her interest as in what is important to them. Look around your surroundings at your interview. What is hanging on their walls, what is on their desk and I don't mean stacks of paper. Examples, family pics, a model car, a model airplane, could be a rock of some trip they took sitting there. Comment on some of that stuff when you feel it is a good time to do so...means a lot to them. I would not cover all that boring truck-driver stuff very much, be personable, imho.

expedite work has to be pretty dead out in west texas, you might be better off doing some other type of driving, but I would not depend on this website to find a driving job out there, most fleet owners seem to want drivers from their own areas...good luck.

Sprinter/Cargo vans maybe slow with some carriers/ regions. If you have experience and want to drive a ST or TT. Message me - there are several companies that are needing experienced CDL drivers.

Not really, we just don't tend to like them way out of the freight lanes.

yeh, that's what I was trying to say... there are other types of freight lanes way out there, and other types of fleet owners for that freight as well....mostly general types of freight for the TT's and such...

Sorry to say but being off the road 10yrs being in west texas and also not having the funds to support your personal expenses for orientation and for the first 2 weeks or so on the road is going to limit the chance you have of finding something.

Please be aware of scammers that will try to use your desperation for a job to their advantage.

I finally got the part driving job I like, but have to get myself there on my own. I going to b out 6 to 8 weeks at a time so who needs a place to live. Now all I need is the money to get there.

Some owners will help drivers get to class and with advance money to live on. Only if your doing loads to bring in income to the truck you would be driving. We do something like that but only give the driver an advance after they have picked up their frist load. See if the owner your going to be driving for will help. Best of luck.
