Stern on Sirius

I have Sirius and Howard Stern coming to Sirius meant absolutely nothing to me. I was neither a lover nor a hater of Howard Stern. I was indifferent. However, Fox News was cut from the Sirius lineup when Stern came and I started listening to him.

As we all know, the name of the game when driving is to stay alert and let the time pass without boredom or fatigue catching up with you. I find that listening to Howard Stern is great for driving.

I know he's offensive to many, and I understand why. I just like having something on the radio to help me drive better and keep me alert.

Anybody else had a similar experience? Anyone else miss Fox News on Sirius? Anyone else find CNN incredibly DULL compared to Fox News.

I would rather fall asleep run off a bridge and die before listening to him ever again!!!!!!! And he wonders WHY he has no friends.

Have to agree, but he did bring in a lot of new subscribers and that can only be good in the long run. I've had my Sirius for 2 years and find it difficult to change my listing patterns,

1:00am - 6:00am Midnight Trucking Show,
6:00am - 11:00am Open Road Cafe
11:00am - 2:00pm CNN (was FOX) or New Country (depends on my mood, sometimes the new is depressing)
2:00pm - 3:00pm Dave Ramsey
3:00pm - 6:00pm Sirius Speedway (best show on any Radio)
6:00pm - 7:00pm Sports Desk
7:00pm - 9:00pm CNN
9:00pm - 1:00pm New Country (CNN starts repeating it self at 9:00pm)

Anyone who doesnt like X-rated humor wont get thru an hour of Howard Stern, plus you need to know the histories of all his sidekicks and reoccuring characters. If you do listen enough however, you will get hooked...

As soon as I find a fuse for my XM power cord I'm cancelling Sirius. They take over too many of the regular stations for sports and they drop Fox for Stern when they should have dropped the communist news network. Stern will bring in a lot of listeners but he also just cost them one.

I second Broompilot’s comments, where’s the bridge?

Stern is a piece of s***, over rated and plain stupid. Not saying how his show is today, but what I have seen (heard) last year it has not changed a bit since he was here in Detroit on W4.

As a person he is scum. I not only met him, my uncle was a fellow DJ at W4, but also he was over to our home several times for dinner with my uncle while he was on W4. The last time he ripped into my Ma because the food wasn’t hot enough. A week later he was out the door at W4, thank God.

I think as radio shows go, if you understand how Arbitron works; he isn’t doing as good as a few others in radio. Very over rated and spun to be great.

I like having the radio on, too, especially during the overnight drives, but I'm with Broompilot - if Howard Stern is the only option, then silence is even more golden. I had to listen to him years ago, when I carpooled to school with a friend, because one of our rules was that the driver chose the radio station, and she chose Stern. (Other than that, she was a really normal person) I swore I'd never listen to the immature jerk again, & I don't. I don't listen to the radio at all, actually - between the CDs I've burned, & the audiobooks I get occasionally, there's enough to listen to all night long. Every time I'm tempted to subscribe to satellite radio, because it's noncommercial, I remember that that's how cable TV started - you paid for the lack of commercials. Now, you pay for hundreds of channels, and they all have commercials! Unless you pay extra for the "premium" channels. No, thanks - I may not be able to avoid commercial advertising entirely, but I'll be d****d if I'll pay for it! x(

Based upon the responses above, I assume we don't have any Bubba the Love Sponge fans either.:)

At least Stern isn't a one-sided lachey for a political party who tries like hell to hide it. Talk radio is overrun with RNC wannabes these days. Micheal Savage excluded, of course. He seems like the last honest "conservative" these days

I bought my first Sirius set up just before Howard Stern announced he was making the move to SatRad. I carried a list of the stations he was syndicated to in my briefcase so I could catch his show while on the road.

I initially chose Sirius for the NFL coverage (being able to listen to either team's regular radio broadcast is a very cool feature) and Lil'Steven's Underground Garage show. After having it about a month they said Howard was coming! Big Bonus! Now Sirius will have NASCAR as well in '07!

While Howard Stern is most certainly not everyone's cup of tea, I've been a fan since he came on the air in Cleveland in the '90s, and I really enjoy having the opportunity to listen to his show every day.
(Bubba, on the other hand, seems to be an acquired taste)

Sirius may not be "Free Radio", as the Clear Channel stations are now touting themselves, but it sure is liberating!!!

If you're a lifetime subscriber to Sirius, then Stern could only help you. He's practically guaranteeing Sirius will be around for a long time to come.

I didn't know they canned FOX news for Stern. That was one of the stations I listened to on a regular basis. At least they're keeping Sirius Right. Tho I don't care for the NRA news in the morning. I usually switched to FOX when it came on.

Whether you like Stern or not, the ppl at Sirius are doing their job to be top dog. Unlike XM...

They did not can Fox News in conjunction with Stern coming over. It just so happened that the Fox News contract was up December 31 and Fox News wanted a lot more money to renew because it was one of the most popular stations on Sirius. The news stories I have read about this issue suggest that Sirius will be renewing with Fox News in the future, in part because they don't want to give XM a de facto exclusive deal with Fox News, especially when XM hasn't paid Fox News exclusive rights money.

That's a funny comment about Bubba being an acquired taste. Definitely an acquired taste. He makes Stern look like family entertainment.

I just cancelled Sirius today and told them one big factor was raising the rate 30% to bring on garbage mouth. The other major factor is their excessive preempting of old time radio and other channels for their sports events. If they can't afford dedicated channels like XM has, and they probably can't since they are paying such a fortune to garbage mouth, they should at least put the sports on the channels that are traffic/weather and leave the other programming channels alone. I'm sure they won't miss me and the others who leave over this because there will be more coming in for garbage than there are leaving because of garbage. The only question is will it be enough to cover the $50 million garbage fee. That's an awfully expensive load of garbage.

I was a subscriber to Esquire Magazine which always was a class mens magazine up until last month when Howard Stern was on the cover and featured inside. I cancelled my subscripton and let them know why.
I don't judge individuals who like H Stern as that is their business and who am I to censor what other people like, but after 15 minutes you have heard it all.

Are Sirius's rates going up? I just checked their site, and it still says $12.95/mo.

That's a big reason I want to get lifetime membership. I knew when Stern came on, they'd probably raise rates. Looks like cable.

Hey Frisco,

Do any of the stories give a possible timeline for the return of FOX News? Last Thursday Sirius wrote me back and said that FOX had 'left' Sirius, but in response to asking about the supposed negotiations with them Sirius said they were still in conversations with FOX in an attempt to get FOX to "do the right thing by their customers".

That sounds desperate to me. We bought 3 additonal radios sets for the kids for christmas and am footing the subscriptions. We're preparing to change everyone over to XM at our cost if Sirius doesn't come around soon.

Good having Stern onboard the best satellite service out there. Even the wife's subscribed for her personnal vehicle. Amazing that alot of the new cars already have the option built right into the radio.

Love him or not ?? So easy to punch another button to get rid of 'em.
