State-run television. State-run radio. State-run newspapers.

Why must reporting on government dominate the first 45 minutes of the news hour on television? Why does radio news devote most of its content to government issues? Why do newspapers give the front page and Section A over to government coverage? It's all about The Government. I wonder if the same phenomena is reflected in China or Russia or Saudi Arabia?

The media is obsessed with government and government is obsessed with itself. The American concept of a free people co-existing with a limited government seems quaint and comical. We aren't so free and government doesn't acknowledge many limits.

The people and The Government are approaching a choke point. I am cautiously pessimistic that our grand experiment with democracy has nearly run its course. A free America sold its soul to The Government for free cheese, food stamps, public housing, Social Security, WIC and dozens of other freebie schemes.

We will re-elect Barack Obama as president because his promises of more Government resonates with a majority of American voters. Predictably, the television-radio-newspaper industry will gladly be his salesmen.

Perhaps it is because Government has gotten so big it has basically consumed everything.

It's also an election year.

The press has chosen their side.

I chose to turn them off. Life is much better.

I listen to the Mark Levin replay and visit a few sites like Freerepublic to keep up to date on the news.
