Stand Your Ground under attack!!

Once again.

The collective imagination of the less intelligent segment of the voting public (Sheeple) has allowed the media and a few instigators (Sharpton, Holder, etc.) to lead them down a path of ignorance and away we go!

Now they want to effect my ability to make a living in my state of residence:

From online petition:
"Boycott Florida tourism until the "Stand Your Ground" law is overturned. Send a message to Florida that their state is not a safe place to vacation if their citizens are able to kill anyone they deem suspicious."
Repeal the evil "Stand your Ground" laws!!!*

Seriously? That's the latest fix?

Question:

Would you rather be restricted by a "duty to retreat" or would you rather have the option of standing your ground when your life is threatened outside of your home?

You forgot to add the DOJ to the list of instigators. They are the worst of the bunch, using tax dollars to fund their "actions". They "employ" the Jackson's and Sharpton's to do their dirty work for them. What else do you expect when we have a professional rabble rouser, mmmm er, community organizer, in the office of president?

It is the constant retreat in the face of crime that has led us to this point. The ONLY "fix" is to hold each individual responsible for his/her's or it's own actions. Till we do that, nothing will change.

Makes you want to take a trip to Florida. Dumber than dirt liberal morons with their idiotic ideas. If only they could all be granted asylum somewhere more to their political and ideological liking, like the Gulag. Anywhere really, so long as they were gone from this land they find so objectionable.

They are not understanding that Stand Your Ground wasn't even the defense used, it was a self defense case and other states offer the same protection.

Yeah, I heard on the TV yesterday that Stevie Wonder is now refusing to preform in Florida or any other State that has a stand your ground law

You know who started that petition? Or at least inspired it?

Stevie Wonder.

He was giving a concert in Canada when the verdict came down, and spent 15 or 20 minutes talking about it on stage, and said he will boycott Florida, and any other state with similar laws, until those laws are changed. In addition for Florida, 25 other states have enacted "Shoot First" (or Stand Your Ground) laws, and 7 others have laws permitting virtually the same thing via a combination of statues, judicial decisions and jury instructions.

The Florida-style Shoot First Law allows the shooter to escape liability in a pretrial hearing, and prevents law enforcement from arresting the shooter unless there is actual probable cause that the use of force was unlawful (which is why Zimmerman wasn't arrested the night of the shooting). The other states with the de facto same (VA, IL, NM, ID, WA OR, CA) don't allow the shooter these protections, and the shooter will almost certainly be arrested even if it's not clear whether or not the shooting was justified, which will get sorted out in pretrial or at trial. But the justifiable self-defense statues still rule unless prosecutors can prove unlawful intent by the shooter (they have to prove it wasn't self-defense, rather than the shooter having to prove it was).

In OH, WI, ND and MO, the Shoot First laws only apply if the shooter is in a vehicle, rather than on foot in public (which, I think, it retarded).

Ironically, Zimmerman never invoked the Stand Your Ground law in his defense at trial.

Florida was the first state to enact the law specifically. Others quickly followed. The NRA was the primary supporter of the law, in addition to most private citizens. Law enforcement was pretty the only group opposed to it (other than those who think guns can be eradicated from the planet).

Since Florida's enactment of the law in 2005, the number of justifiable homicides have tripled in the state (2005-2010), which opponents cite as reason to repeal the law. However, if you aren't Forced to Flee and can defend yourself, it stands to reason that the numbers would rise. During the same period, the number of violent crimes has dropped by more than fifty percent, something which opponents conveniently ignore. Other states with the same laws have seen similar numbers as Florida.

A classic example of the blind leading the blind.

"Sheeple" don't care to understand.
It became clear in the trial that Zimmerman was pinned down on his back. It should be pretty clear to even the most casual observer that retreat was not even an option and "Stand your Ground" did not apply.
But. This is how "Sheeple" make decisions. Watch/listen to their favorite commentator for 20 minutes each day and go with what they are told.
I believe that this could be the final step in the long effort to convert the USA to an Idiocracy.
God help us in future elections. :(

If there are going to be future elections.

This is a step in the long effort to make everyone dependent on the government. Dependent people are controlled people. Total control over your life, from cradle to grave, is their goal. They will do ANYTHING to achieve that goal, including kill.

In that case, I will Stand My Ground!

We will stand together then!

Gun owners are to Obama what the Jews were to Hitler, a "scapegoat". Every tin horn dictator needs a scapegoat to drum up hate against to cover his/her/it's real agenda. Yep, a "scapegoat" and an outside enemy. Obama is looking HARD at Syria for that.
