Looking at the Sprinter and was curious if they have resolved the following problems: EGR Valves, Timing Belt, Transmission, etc.?

Also does anyone know what the replacement costs are for the transmission, engine and timing chain.

Was considering a 6.0 powerstroke w/high top, powerstroke w/cube box or the 158" wheelbase. We have a 2000 powerstroke with 477,000 mils on it and I can't help but wonder when it's gonna give up !?

My co driver doesn't carry the luggage of a "rock star" ; however, she does like some creature comforts while being dragged all over the U S, actually I'm sorta fond of them too.:) :) ;) :p

Replacement cost for the Sprinter engine is roughly $12,000. I heard of one transmission gone south in a van leased to the same company as I. I'm not sure if I remember correctly but I believe a new transmission cost him $8,000.

I bout my Sprinter in Sept and have 26000 miles on it. Have gone through 4 EGR valves, 2 belts and 1 air compressor. They determined that the belt problem was from a smooth pulley that was supposed to have grooves in it. :( :( :(

I'm on my second Sprinter only because I slid the first one on black ice. The first one had almost 70,000 miles on it and I didn't have any major problems with it. Was told a lot of horror stories after I bought it but never did have any of the problems I head about other drivers having.

I have heard the Sprinter is real hard to handle on Ice."It goes where it wants to"
You must not feel this way since you bought another.

Apparently the 05's have a redesigned EGR according to dealer. But he also said that pulling the plug while idling will do no harm and NOT void the warranty ( get that one in writing ) The EGR is only on the North American models because we still use dirty diesel fuel. The European models don't have an EGR.

I myself will be ordering a new Sprinter after X-mas to take delivery in the spring and the start of busy season.

I wish the big 3 didn't have a monopoly in the van sector, the prices might be more competitive if they had some other players in the market!
When Daimler pulled out of the van market in favour of the Sprinter the other 2 have gone off the shelf in pricing.

What do you mean by Daimler pulled out of the van market? The prices of the other 2, (Ford and GM) have remained stable. Thanks :+ :+

Meaning they don't make a conventional van any more, Just the Sprinter

They have no real competition with each other Ford has thier models amd GM thiers, and they are not even close to comparing the options are soooo different...My opinion of course. :)
