Mark,

Are you letting go of "ol' Yeller," or is this just admiration? I guess my only request would be to make it an higher box, but that's just me.

Jeff,
Nope!! Just admiration. Like I said Daimler screwed it up with the 11,030 GVWR. Just thought it was cool looking. It's shorter, narrower and not as tall as the truck I have. So I'll just have to enjoy looking at the pics. Less truck + log book = No Deal

Mark,

How about a little update on how ol' yeller is working out, delivery-wise.

I really like it. This is the first gasser truck I have had since I started in the courier/expediter business in 1995. I miss the "Hummin Cummins" but I am pleased with the performance and reliability of this truck. I also love the fact that I can get fuel ANYWHERE instead of always looking for a truckstop so I wouldn't get gouged on the diesel fuel. My last truck was dock high and I was a bit leary of going with this non-dock high truck but it honestly has not been an issue. In fact it keeps me out of the Visteon Sterling Heights plant which has got to be the poster child for why American Union plants are moving south of the border. I hated that place.
I carry a pallet jack to make it easier to load and unload.
The pass-thru door is nice too. I keep a full-size air mattress strapped to the ceiling of the box up front. When I need to use it I put it right up against the pass thru door which allows the cab heat/ac to keep me relatively comfortable if the temps aren't too extreme. If I was doing this full-time I would take about 48" at the front of the box and make it a dedicated sleeper area that would still leave me over 10' for cargo. But I don't go out and stay out and just usually use the air mattress for power naps.
I realize the dual rear wheels are costing me some mpg's but I like having the 92" of interior width as well as the floor being flat (no wheel wells).
I still lust after the Sprinter's especially the 2007's but this truck suits my purposes for a lot less money. I would buy another one without hesitation.

Msinger,
I'm curious about the size of the cargo you have had. Are there any times where you have taken more than 3 skids?

Msinger, what is the curb weight (driver, fuel, personal stuff) of Old Yeller? I'm curious as to how much weight one could legally carry. Also how tall is it, ground to highest point.

I have hauled 6 45x48 skids. I routinely haul 4-5 skids. We do alot for an aerospace company whose freight is very light.
I hauled 6 skids last weekend from Franklin, IN to Tallapoosa, GA for a grand weight of 533#.
Curbweight is about 6900# depending on how many buffets I hit that particular week.

The height is labeled as 10'6" but I think it is more like 10'2" actual height. Penske probably labeled it higher to give "the renters" a little bit of leeway.
