Anyone ever thought of having a diagonal bunk? From behind drivers seat to just behind sliding door.....this would produce quite a longer body extension. You'd be left with 2 triangular areas to work with.

You could do it, and I suppose you could build on a curved area for the feet and head, instead of a pure rectangle, which would give you a little extra room. But it wouldn't exactly be the most efficient use of space. And you'd absolutely be limited to exactly 8 feet of cargo space (which is enough), but you'd be limited to 30" wide on the bunk. Any wider and it cuts into the cargo area.

Thanks for drawing it out....it was rattling around for awhile in my head. I was lazy to draw it.

Can you draw 2 ...2- 6 foot 4in end to end bunks? does that work better??

Other option 2 6' 2" one on the passenger side toward rear and one behind drivers seat .....both dropping from wall...

Not sure what you mean there. 2 ...2- 6 foot 4in end to end?

Two bunks, 6' 4" long, end to end? There's 166 inches between the rear of the seat and the inside of the rear door. Two bunks like that would fit, easily, as they'd be 152 inches.

One on each side at 6' 4" would certainly fit, too.

I'm not big on dropping down from the wall thing. I just had too many times in that old van where I had two skids on there and needed to sleep, but couldn't. Made Friday pickups for Monday delivery a nightmare (if I could have actually slept, that is). Even with just one skid I couldn't really get any sleep. Try to curl up on a skid and you'll see what I mean. hehe

How long a bunk could you have if you took the passenger seat out and put one along the right side using the same 8'6" cargo bulkhead some have?

88 inches, 7' 4"
But, keep in mind that the passenger door is nearly impossible to insulate inside there, because of the door latch, window mechanism and electronics. The footwell can be insulated, but getting airflow from something like an Espar is gonna be more trouble than it's worth, so unless you idle, you're feet are gonna be cold. And, it'll be a real booger getting in and out of the side sliding door. :)

Yes, it would definitely have compromises but would allow a full length bed. I guess it just depends on where one wants to make their compromises.

I ran into one guy who did that very thing. He was 6' 8". He just insulated the door the best he could, used a bunch of blankets at the footwell and stepwell by the door (sliding door, too), and dealt with it. He basically didn't use the side sliding door at all, just used either the driver door or the rear door. I'm sure that was far more easier to deal with than being 14" too long for a sideways bed. He did have a lot of complicated duct work on his Espar, in order to get a little heat up to his feet. It was very kewl, but he used to be an HVAC guy, so it wasn't that big a deal for him.

Turtle I know you love your bulkhead but our personal preference is not to have one...being a team makes it too crowded with all our gear. Ours is divided into 3 rooms kinda, bedroom, office and reading room. hahaha...Looking at our records we get about 6-8, 3 skidders a month. Only a couple times a month we get stuck with a load over a weekend. Most weekends we are driving to make delivery for Monday.
