I saw new Fedex Sprinter reefer van couple weeks ago down in South Carolina looked like a nice set up but wow expensive cost, my understanding is $80,000 by the time you add sleeper and the reefer set up
Had one deliver 3 small pallets to my airplane at Wilson Air in Memphis. Nice looking setup. She said she could haul 2 48X48 pallets up to 1500#s. Looks kinda limiting unless you get a good premium for the reefer.
There are actually a number of them up for sale, ain't no $80k more like $25k. Take one to Carrier and have them move the bulkhead back and you have your sleeper area and a reefer sprinter for FedEx under $30k.
greg, last year at expo i was told by the fed that they committed to 20 of the br units and actually have a great deal invested in getting the unit to temp properly for t val loads. there is more to it than taking it to carrier. they will prolly have one at expo again.
Greg it was not your backyard mechanic set up it was brand new Sprinter with the sleeper and fully insulated reefer box even extra insulation barrier for the back door opening and the owner said he paid close to $80 k but gets around $2 to $3 a mile to haul medicine and high value art work
this isn't a new ideal, a driver out of buffalo ny in the early 90's had a b unit refer that he made , and did very well with it
and he had retired from carrier and had know how and build 2 them
I wonder if he was the one who had the pharma contract in Jersey? There was a few of them running between the plants and research places in the mid-90's to 2001.
