Well, yeah, I'd say that if the engine light came on and the cruise no longer works, they're probably related. You need to know what the engine light error code is. It may be caused by a blown fuse or a bad relay, or something else entirely. If you don't have a code reader, Autozone should be able to read the generic code, but a Sprinter dealer (or former dealer) will be able to tell you the specific Mercedes code.

If the engine light came on as soon as you took it out of the shop, take it back to the shop.

I, know if you over fill(even a 1/4 of a quart) on the 2007 model ,it will not let the cruise control work and just about any other warning light that comes on,the cruise control will not work, until you get it fixed.

Yeah, that's true. Turn the key to ON, not to start it, but to ON where the dash lights come on and stuff. Wait 10 or 15 seconds for the odometer display to change to an oil can. And then press the "mi " button. It will tell you if the oil is OK, or over-under filled.

THat dipstick has two sensors on it, one for over fill and one for under fill. The oil level must be between the two .. just check the oil with the dipstick?

You know, I have to ask this and it may sound weird....

Did you or the shop replace any tail light bulbs?

If the wrong bulb is inserted it will trip engine light and disable your cruise...... and a bunch more stuff.....

Can I ask what the reason is for oil level or wrong bulbs disabling the cruise, or is it just a Sprinter quirk?

The "pita" Sprinter system knows "something" is wrong, it just wants to make sure you know it.:confused:

WEll, the dipstick has two markers on it, but they aren't sensors. The Oil Sensor (detects oil level, oil temperature, and oil quality) is located in the oil pan.

Check the dipstick, obviously, but if the dipstick looks fine but the display on the dash says it's overfilled, then there is a malfunction of the oil sensor or the ECU.

Older model Sprinters (03 and older, I think) had a dual filament bulb for the brake/tail light. You could actually insert it upside down, which would result in your brake lights always being on when you're driving, and they would go out as soon as you applied the brakes. Nice, huh? They don't want you driving around like that, so in most cases (all as far as I know) the vehicle won't even start when the bulb is installed incorrectly. You have no idea how many people had to get their vehicles towed in for repair, when all they had to do was flip the bulb. :D
