Spring madness

I've been at home now a week and have had a chance to catch up on my reading of business journals and rags....I see almost nothing that is indicative that things are going to pick up any for some of us....BUT as in the past most carriers will forecast some kind of uptick and the recruiting doors will swing wide open for the spring rush....literally taking money from our pockets if an uptick does happen....by maintaining the over abundance of vans....the only positive indicators I see is an increase in manufacturing a bit, some increase in consumer spending and some restocking of inventory...auto manufacturers will run their spring sales to clear out last year models...heck Toyota is already into the 2013 model year..2013 Lexus ads on TV.
So recruiters...lets not go crazy and kill any extra dollars there maybe for those of us already out here....

BTW at Load 1..one of the tools to spark recruiting, they look at average income per vehicle when it gets high they recruit..a system I don't particularily agree with....it effectively lowers that average, lower my income with more units....why can't I have a high income?

Disclaimer: I already have a good income, I am greedy...LOL is that a bad thing?

I just ran across this bit of good news....

http://news.yahoo.com/detroit-automakers-race-keep-sales-080141880.html

an example:
But in a state where unemployment was above 14 percent just three years ago, any jobs are welcome. And Michigan is not the only region to benefit. Ford is adding positions in Louisville, Ky., Chicago and near Kansas City, Mo. Chrysler is adding jobs in Belvidere, Ill., and General Motors is hiring at plants in Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas and New York.
Foreign carmakers are also shifting production to the U.S. because of higher sales and the weak dollar, which cuts the profits they get from selling vehicles exported to America. Nissan is adding workers in Tennessee. Toyota just hired staff at a new plant in Blue Springs, Miss. Honda is hiring in Alabama and Ohio. Hyundai and Kia plants in Alabama and Georgia are running flat-out but can't meet demand for some models such as the Hyundai Sonata and Elantra.

Good times in automotive unless gas goes up to $5 per gallon. Then all you will be hauling is AA batteries.

unknown equation right there.......it was IMO more of a factor 5 yrs ago...these new fuel efficient cars/trucks are making that less of a factor...

Depends on how long it remains high. The longer it remains high the more effect it will have. It will still have an impact on inflation as the cost of shipping gets passed along.

If they get it up to the levels that Europe is paying, which is their goal, then things will really hit the fan.

That is the wild card....just when some might expect the spring spike in business..just how much will the fuel costs effect shippers....

I suspect recruiters are paid based on how many cattle they herd through the barn with maybe additional pay based on how many stay for a certain amount of time. That leads to the fogged mirror test for suitability. Recruiters should be paid in a manner that doesn't promote flooding the market. Companies are fine with having a vehicle on every corner though. They know there's an endless supply of replacements when operators fail and quit. They also know they will be stealing at least $20 per week per operator by overcharging them so the more overstaffed the better.

The more they have paying them ridiculous fees the greater the profit centre...

I have a feeling based on projected production from the last few year not to mention doing this for 9 years my intutition is that this is going to be a slow year for all of us. No major policy changes coming from the Obama administration not to mention the ever creeping further of socialism means we will have a stagnant economy for a long time to come. Think Europe. Sorry for the doom and gloom.

No "Doom & Gloom" as i read it..just more closer to the truth then alot want to admit....That being said, i see people doing well this yr and i see people falling through the cracks..its business and it will always be that way..There are people who will alway find ways to be successful and there are those that shouldn't have tried to begin, they never set themselves up to succeed from the start, and when the "pinch" comes they can't make it out the other side...

And yes, you can look at Europe and see what layes ahead for our country....the inflation, the devaluation of the dollar, the debt and the entitlement share the wealth mentality, goverment interference in the market and business and the"statest" idealism of this current admin are working their best to lead us to a Eurpoean type of culture and collapse...

Be careful what you wish for.

The auto companies are hiring but they are be very selective about who and what they hire. What Ford and GM haven't learned is that they will hire these people instead of extending OT to lower paid workers and then end up laying people off.

I love it, we still have 14% unemployment here. Try getting a job somewhere and see where you get.
