Speedco Problems

I was at the Speedco in Kenly, NC for a PM when the guy came out from under the truck and informed me that I had steel cord showing on one of my lift axle tires. I looked and sure as shootin it was. Since it was on the lift axle and not my drive axle I decided to put on recaps, cash is very tight now.

I was doing my PTI 2 mornings later and noticed that one of the new tires was flat and off the rim. That tire had NEVER been on the road.

I finished the load I was on and stopped at the Speedco to get the problem taken care of.

It turned out that the tire had a nail in it!! SO, Speedco says that they would not replace the tire. I pointed out that it was NOT on the road and had NEVER been on the road. The manager said I must have hit something. There were NO scuff marks on the tire where I could have "hit something" and the nail had NO head on it and was completely under the rubber, no part of the nail protruded outside the rubber.

I had to by a ANOTHER tire. So much for trying to keep costs down.

I talked to Speedco corporate office and they said that they had never seen a recap done with a nail in it. I said that I have never heard of putting a nail through the side wall of a tire that was off the ground.

They are looking into it. I will post the results when I hear them.

I contend that the tire was capped with that nail in it. Bandad caps zillions of tires, they have to screw up once in a while. Thoughts?

Pics of the tire below.

I'm sure you are right. I hope Speedco steps up and does the right thing. I had one problem with them after an oil change. They took care of everything, including the towing. The only part they didn't pay was what I lost having to swap a load about 1/2 way through.

Based on my experience with them, I think they'll do the right thing. I agree Layout, it sounds like one that slipped through quality control at Bandag.

We did have a problem with an oil change two years ago, they stripped my oil pan. The shop claimed that they did not do it, BUT, corporate stepped right in and fixed it. I too hope that they just refund my money on the replacement tire and then THEY put in a claim with Bandag for the bad tire. That is how it should be done, at least in my opinion.
