story here :

TheTrucker.com - America's Trucking Newspaper

(LoL, (an Expedite truck strike a PU, and we all needs speed limiters...)

this is yet another example of how large carriers use gov. to regulate competition out of business.
misleading the DOT, and flat out lie.
Extract : "The report said that the researchers included data from 20 truck fleets, approximately 138,000 trucks and more than 15,000 crashes. Approximately 15 percent of the crashes were identified as speed limiter-relevant. "

so the average fleet to be used in the study have 6,900 power units

no word what so ever about how speed limiter effect the safety of small fleets, but don't expect Bill Graves to say so.

in my letter, and my presentation, to Anne Ferro last week in MATS, i claimed just that.
i said that as long as they keep listening to the ATA they will continue to be fed with the wrong incorrect data.

the only conclusion of this study, is that speed limiters are good for large carriers. there for they are the ONLY ones needs to be regulated, and that's leveling the playing fields for Yh'a.
it's time for the FMCSA to find a way to move more of the freight using experience drivers.

The problem with your statement Moose is you buy into the OOIDA is never wrong crowd. Just look at the side of your trailer, you are giving them free advertisement. Even thou I'm a life member I don't buy into most of their the sky is falling claims.

The reason OOIDA isn't listened to that much by FMCSA is OOIDA is a ORg. of no to 99% of anything that comes out of D.C..

Just as they were for EOBR's for the worst carriers, that was until some of the OOIDA members were the bad carriers. The they all of a sudden were against the rule. Then they claimed it was because if they let the rule go forward then the next step by FMCSA would be for everyone to have EOBR's. Well there coming in the next 3 years, if not sooner.

Like i told OOIDA when i cam up with the trailer.
advertizing - yes.
representing - No.

like yourself, i do not agree with everything they stands for, and i said that over here many times over.
i communicate those feeling with them all the time,
in MATS i had long conversation with many of the OOIDA policy makers.
Beaching around on a trucking forum, is the least i do to make my voice heard.

to the point, not only that i did not contacted them before the OP,
after the fact i did call them, and they did not agreed with all that i posted.

if you are a life member, i'd suggest (or even expect), you call them when you think they do not represents you well,
like i do, more often then not.

last week in MATS, i was asked by the FMCSA if i am associated with any group, to which i answers no.
please keep in mind that Todd Spencer was only a few seats to my left, and he know me very well.
speed limiters will not improved road safety, they will improve large carriers button line, on the back of small carriers, and that's what it is all about, just read to OP.
