Something To Consider

If all Open Forum members were restricted to posting no more than one post a day, would the Open Forum readers be better or worse off? I would happily abide by a one post per day rule if all others did to.

Phil,
There is an old mind set that forums are open for a reason.

When we restrict them in any way, they no longer are open.

The word CENSORSHIP comes to mind.

You know even though the thought of a single post within a 24 hour period sounds inviting, the point is that the real success of a forum are the posts, the differing opinion and the off topic comments within threads. People don’t think the same and sometimes there are words that trigger ideas and thoughts that may not be there if we throw the flag down on an off topic comment.

I would venture to bet that once some sort of censorship comes to fruition in any form including intimidation like we saw in another thread, there is no real flow of information and the forum no longer really exists for it’s intended purpose.

I think back to better times when we had a good press and other countries had controlled the press, Pravda is a perfect example for a controlled opinion and editorials.

Also didn't you ask this question or something like it last year? I recall we had a rather good thread about censorship and how forums work - but again it may have been locked and/or deleted.

If restricting members to one post a day is a good idea, let's go even further: a word count - no one may post more than, say, 250 words, (200 if there's a lot of 'nine jointed' words) per day.
Growing up in a pretty dysfunctional family, I've heard a lot of truly dumb ideas, (some of which may even have been mine) but this one is in a class of it's own...

What a great thread! 60 mph, even though I am not a mod I will be watching for similar handles. You tipped your hand in your previous reply. Wow, I feel like a Hitler youth already. Greg, there you go disagreeing with Phil again. What is your problem young man! Cheri, it is a good thing you are not a mod anymore, what with getting your hands caught in the pickle jar. DD, where are you? Phil needs your help. I'm off to the drug store for some P.H.

I really think it was asked as a joke. It sure is funny though.
Ya'll crack me up. If it wasn't for posts like this, there
would be no fun here at all.

I know you have a serious forum going on here and it does provide some great information at times but ya'll can't take a joke.

Lighten up a bit:D

It was an idea floated for serious discussion. I know of at least one forum in the political arena that used this rule. That was a long time ago and I do not know if it even exists any more. After watching several threads drift wildly off topic in recent days, and some of them getting downright nasty, the thought occured to me that if people had to budget their posts, they may also may think them out more carefully. It's not about censorship. People can still say anything they wish. A quantity limit would simply provide an incentive for people to consider the value of what they post before they post it.

Maybe a limit of 3 posts a day instead of 1?

Ahhhh Cheri.

You got it right again dear, restrict the number of words to make ones point enjoyable to read the other posters comments.

Your so smart....
