Today as has happened before another soldier returned from the Afghan conflict in a box. The family was probably on the tarmac to meet the casket and travel along the highway to Toronto to the coroners office.
It is a sight and thought provoking to see the numbers of citizens holding flags, standing on the overpasses to welcome home the fallen. The numbers have grown from the few for the first couple of soldiers to what we see now.
It's great to see the support, patriotism and thanks given our soldiers.
Something I was wondering. Why does the US not have the families meet the caskets on return to US soil? Our military arranges for them to be at Transport Command when the aircraft arrives and on the tarmac for the ceremony (if they want to be there). I know this isn't possible during a major conflict with large numbers of casualties, but what with the smaller numbers.
