Greetings all - Just wanted to share that today (was) Doc's birthday #65, and we celebrated by signing the order for our new truck. A mental nose-thumbing at the idea that turning 65 means elderly/end of working/only golf and checkers until the end... :p

Good news on a healthy birthday, active future, AND new truck!

A couple days ago, a dealer told me that if I ordered a new cab and chasis that is factory-built to my specifications, it would be delivered in January, 2006. it seems the new truck pre-buy is on and orders are stacking up. The dealer would speed delivery time by working my new order in place of one of the lot display trucks they have in que, but the wait would still be long.

I'm curious. If you ordered a new truck, how long will your wait be?

Depends on the make and what model you are ordering.

Thanks for all the kind words.
I've become older and a little bit wiser.
But I'm still very young at heart.
I'm stuck in my teen years.
How else can I get anyone to pay me to get my best girl and go cruising with her around this nation and Canada?
The chassis will be a 2006 Freightliner Columbia CL-112 daycab.
We'll add a Bentz sleeper and a Hercules dry box.
Our salesman (Phillip Hooper at the Neely Coble Company, the Freightshaker dealer in Nashville) said that he can get the chassis for us in June if we wish.
Instead, though, we've asked for the chassis to be delivered to the Bentz plant (in Fort Wayne) during the first half of September.
By the way, Phillip is a prince among men.
I've known him since 1977 -- his first year in medium- and heavy-duty trucks -- and my first year as a professor of business.
Phillip has done a magnificent job of collaborating with me in putting together a dynamite set of specs -- exactly what I want to buy -- instead of what some dealer wants to sell.
Phillip has a college background in engineering -- so he understands how machines work best.
If any of you is in the market for a new ride, please call Phillip at 800-367-7712.
And please feel free to ask Phillip to "borrow" any of my ideas from my specs in Phillip's file.
I feel not even the slightest bit of jealousy about sharing those ideas -- instead I would feel flattered.
Thanks again for your kind words.
Doc -- the old young man.

By the way, we chose the Columbia over the Century because it has an option of 112 instead of only 120. Take 8 inches off the nose, and you can put it in the sleeper - 90" and still a Class 8 truck!

Hi Al - It was fantastic. Best thing we ever did. We were there for 2 yrs, then the savings dwindled (living with no income, and even paying crew fees to do it, really cuts into the nest egg!) so we're back ashore and back to the road.

Sounds like it should be a great set up. What size sleeper and box are you putting on?

Congrats on the b bday. Have a way to go, 13, before I get there. I to will be receiving my new truck next monday. As with yours, mine will have a bentz sleeper. Have spent many hours comparing quality of materials used in the interior construction. No one else that I have seen compares. Have been to the plant twice, Keith and his dad were great to work and talk with. Actually got to sit in my truck there as they were adding the accessories I ordered, i.e. the auxgen and plated toolboxes. Can't wait to drive it off the lot.

TH:
Thanks for the kind words.
Yes, I agree wholeheartedly that Keith and his people do extremely well.
Marda and I have met with him twice at his plant.
He has treated us most graciously and cooperatively.
We look forward to seeing you and your truck.
Doc.
