We don't need no stinkin Constitution, it just gets in the way"....They had no idea who they were looking for, just a tip the the person might be in a car at that intersection....So the stop 25 cars and at gunpoint force each adult out of the cars and handcuff them, THEN ask for permission to search them and their cars....WOW....But then again i am pretty sure the Libs on the Left are ok with this as "the end justifies the means..." and "hey if you have nothing to hide, whats the big deal..."

Police Stop Dozens Of Drivers Looking For Robbery Suspect - Denver News Story - KMGH Denver

DENVER -- Aurora police stopped dozens of cars and pulled out their drivers at gunpoint looking for a bank robbery suspect Saturday afternoon.Police said an armed man robbed a Wells Fargo bank on E. Hampden Avenue and S. Chambers Road and fled.

Police tracked the robber to the intersection of E. Iliff Avenue and S. Buckley Road.Responding officers barricaded the area, trapping about 25 cars near the intersection. Then police went car by car and pulled out each occupant at gunpoint and handcuffed them.

"Cops came in from every direction and just threw their car in front of my car," said Sonya Romero, who was one of the drivers handcuffed. "We all got cuffed until they figured out who did what."Ben Barker watched the ordeal and told 7NEWS police were armed with shot guns and rifles.

"We didn't know if we were in the line of fire or what the hell was happening," Romero said.Eventually police came to a white Ford Expedition and arrested the driver.

Police have not released the suspect's name. The other drivers were then released. The whole ordeal lasted about two hours

Police Stop, Handcuff Every Adult at Intersection in Search for Bank Robber

Police in Aurora, Colo., searching for suspected bank robbers stopped every car at an intersection, handcuffed all the adults and searched the cars, one of which they believed was carrying the suspect.

Police said they had received what they called a “reliable” tip that the culprit in an armed robbery at a Wells Fargo bank committed earlier was stopped at the red light.

“We didn’t have a description, didn’t know race or gender or anything, so a split-second decision was made to stop all the cars at that intersection, and search for the armed robber,” Aurora police Officer Frank Fania told ABC News.

Officers barricaded the area, halting 19 cars.

“Cops came in from every direction and just threw their car in front of my car,” Sonya Romero, one of the drivers who was handcuffed, told ABC News affiliate KMGH-TV in Denver.
From there, the police went from car to car, removing the passengers and handcuffing the adults.

“Most of the adults were handcuffed, then were told what was going on and were asked for permission to search the car,” Fania said. “They all granted permission, and once nothing was found in their cars, they were un-handcuffed.”

The search lasted between an hour and a half and two hours, and it wasn’t until the final car was searched that police apprehended the suspect.

“Once officers got to his car, they found evidence that he was who they were looking for,” Fania said. “When they searched the car, they found two loaded firearms.”

The actions of the police have been met with some criticism, but Fania said this was a unique situation that required an unusual response.

“It’s hard to say what normal is in a situation like this when you haven’t dealt with a situation like this,” Fania said. “The result of the whole ordeal is that it paid off. We have arrested and charged a suspect.”

The other people who had been held at the intersection were allowed to leave once the suspect was apprehended.

This part seems important?

It seems they did the correct thing .. no?

It's a police thing. ""Your First Amendment rights can be terminated," yells the Chicago police officer, caught on video right before arresting two journalists outside a Chicago hospital. One, an NBC News photographer, was led away in handcuffs essentially for taking pictures in a public place."

'First Amendment rights can be terminated'

Taking pictures, and sucessfully apprehending an armed bank robber don't seem to compare, at least in my book.

They had an active crime scene in progress, and I, (personally), think they handled it rather well.

Sometimes the individual has to sucumb to the welfare of the group.

I would not condone this in most cases, such as sobriety check points, etc ... but in this case, I'm in agreement with what they did.

I don't have a problem with what they did, either. Like you said, it was part of an active crime scene.

I do think this is funny, though:
The search lasted between an hour and a half and two hours, and it wasn’t until the final car was searched that police apprehended the suspect.

Just like finding lost keys, they're always in the last place you look. :D

If they had kept on search cars after they apprehended the suspect, that would be a problem.

The "active crime scene" was at the bank on e. hampton ave..they trapped innocent people in an area 1.7 miles away on S. buckley...they forced people from their cars at gun point with no reasonable suspicion that "that exact person" had committed a crime..they then handcuffed and held them for over an hour until the found the person that robbed the bank...

This was a public street not a known crack house...LE is not allowed to to stop forcibly remove and detain the masses with no description of who they are looking for simply to "look for a criminal"...how far away from the crime scene is ok for them to travel and then violate peoples civil rights?? 2 mile? 25 miles? across the country? Before this is all done, this is going to cost the city millions....the ends does not justify the means....

I think you'll find that the "active crime scene" was both at the bank and where they tracked the suspect to. The scenes aren't mutually exclusive.

So he gets away for the day, and then a tip comes in, he is in another city....that location become "a crime scene"??? so any corner in any city becomes a crime scene when a wanted felon is standing there waiting for a cab 3 yrs later??? Nope, I don't think thsat flys in court, just as this won't....

If they are still in hot pursuit, yes. If he truly got away and they had no clue until the tip, then probably not. Hot pursuit is an important factor, not just in this case, but it also allows, for example, for you to pursue someone you catch stealing something from you, and then take it back by force just as if the confrontation happened on your property. The same "castle defense" still applies during a hot pursuit. If you lose track of them and then later find out where they are and confront them, physically, it's gonna be a problem.

Nope, they didn't have a "criminal to pursue", because "they admittedly had no idea who they were looking for"....the whole deal is about the forcible removal at gun point, and detaining the masses" on a "public street"....they illegally forced the removal of people from their cars detained them for over an hour in the "hope" of finding the criminal...the fact that they found him does not justify their actions to the masses...and it will cost the city....

I was thinking the same thing. Any handcuffed citizen worth his/her salt can get MUCH more from the city than was taken from the bank. Multiply that by 20. POW!

Sorry officer, you seem to have dropped your BOND.

Car 54, Where Are You? Theme Lyrics

(Theme by Nat Hiken) - Car 54, Where Are You? Lyrics

There's a hold up in the Bronx,
Brooklyn's broken out in fights.
There's a traffic jam in Harlem
That's backed up to Jackson Heights.
There's a scout troup short a child,
Kruschev's due at Idlewild
Car 54, Where Are You?
