Somthinng to share

Was the dark of the moon on a Dec night runen a load from Salem VA to
Bellingham WA. It was about 6pm and just turned on the VA 70 Turnpike
when we lost an air chanber on tractor. Called TA outa Hurricane VA and they did a Road Side replace ment for $787.00 We waited for about 5 hours for them to get to us about 55 miles away ouch is right. Got back underway and had a predispatch of which was accepted, Time passes a few fill ups then Just before Arriving at the Consignee Bellingham WA , at the Stop lite in In Bellingham WA The Bull broke a AC Alternator Belt. Lucky I had a spare and I replaced it on the spot, I used my left arm as a lever to pull the belt tensor over to put on the belt. (Couldnt find my half inch breaker bar(Im no weakling. by the way I did this one in the dark while My co driver was asleep) Finaly unloaded and back underway
Stopping at Freightliner got 4 spare belts just in case.

Headed back over the Mountain Snowqamie Pass Chain laws in Effect
Big storm. Got out and we Chained up the Bull (Nick Name of the Truck we Drive) and Away We went over the Pass Well while we were Crossing they closed the Pass and all traffic heading west came to a stand still for about an hour or so, Snowing and Wet we sat listening to the Xas Music on xm 104. Then back underway. Down the Mountain and finaly able to take off the Chains at a Pilot.

Running down 90 heading to Spokemine WA we stopped to bed down at a Brand New Petro off of 90 in WA. Lucky we made it to the Petro while fueling the Rear Brake Chanmber Diafram Blew on the Fuel Island. So I went over to the Service But they had no Mechanic till morning The Brakes would not release so stuck on the fuel island at night we were.
How embarrasing.
Next morning the mechanic came in came out and after an hour got the brakes to release and he said with out all 4 pins in the chamebers no way I could have released the breaks. (food for thought)
Yes Im mechinical and I no how to do it. so read on
Breaks released we drove over to the shop and HE replaced the bad chamber, (Piggy back) any way cost $87.00 now go figure.
Remember what the first one cost by the TA and they did the same job.

Now back under way pick up the Load and now heading Back East.
Comming across South Dakota The Bull Through a pully on the AC unite which also powers the Alternator.
so now Im running on Battery Power for the fuel Pump and 150 miles we drive to get to the Freightliner in Sioux Falls South Dakota Of which Replaced the whole AC unite for $810.00. And No to contraiery belief you couldnt just put a new pully on the AC unite.
5 hours latter back underway and Headed to the delivery, Making it to Rennselor NY we stay the Night at a Truck Stop off of 787 exit 2
A hole in the wall but at least they had good food. Up the Next Morning and at the Consignee we deliver.
My Co driver made flight arrangements so we headed to Richmond VA
so he could make his flight and he did I let him off at the airport at 4ish am and then shot home to Newport News VA. Now Im on a 34 hours reset got in at 530ish to Newport News and Im bored to tears.
Got what seem like a dozen calls from the CO about loads but like I said Im outa service till I reset. I will run single till the 2nd of Jan 07 then I pick up my Co driver. Well any way Thats the Storie.

>Yes Im mechinical and I no how to do it. so read on

I did read on. Nowhere In the rest of Your tale Did you Say you Backed off The brakes and Moved The bull off the %@&ing fuel island!

Why did it take a mechanic an hour to release the brakes? Couldn't he have installed a new diaphram in 20 minutes or completely replaced the brake chamber in an hour. Or are you leaving out the part about the torch and brake shoes frozen to the drums?

The Chambers were not frozen as at the Petro it was 40 degrees
also their is no rhyme to reason why he had to pin all four chambers on the trailer to get them to release, I said all that.
and no he wanted to replace the chamber inside the shop
now if you read on you see that he never charge me labor only for the piggey back. which was 87.00 bucks. Very nice guy dont you think.

Also

No Torch as they were not frozen, Crazy things happen when you go into ice and snow on mountain tops.

have a safe one.

also note when I first started out the first chamber that went was on the tractor,on route 70 in VA abouts and the TA came outa Hurrican VA. At the Petro it was the Trailer chamber. I only shared what happened and the facts. Bear in mind I am mechinical but I am not an owner operator just a driver, if I had the money to buy the tools and put them on the truck I would. unlike some drivers that get big xmas bounes and rub the salt into the sore I did not. How ever the Truck I drive is the money maker for the boss. Have a nice day

Marv I can't believe you don't carry a cresent wrench and four "T" bolts for backing off brake springs. I'm sure you made alot of friends parked in the fuel island all night. Did anyone buy you guys breakfast in the morning?

sounds like the record was for break downs, with all that down time, can't believe he was permitted to keep the load, and was it really a 7 day week,15k for week is nice, but not great
