Does anyone know how much would it cost if i was to add a sleeper and shorten the box to about 20feet? Or could i put a semi sleeper on it and shorten the box?

I made a 26 into a 20 for $1000.
Box was on the ground.
You'd be $5,000 to $10,000. Figured $1000 for sleeper from junkyard.

I know of a guy in Ky that did have a 72" Alumni Bunk already off the truck for $750.

I'm planning to shorten a 28' to a 24', what end would it be easier to shorten it from front or back?

It'd be cheaper at the back.
The back takes more abuse.

The front has less stress, but the box will have to be loosened and slid back, possibly removed.

I'd get the opinion of two qualified truck-body shops. If they agree, follow their advice.

This is a box that's already off the truck and on the ground. It has barn doors and around 3" door frame on both sides and top. I'm beginning to think maybe i have to cut from the front, I'm gonna have to go out and have look at it again

I would think cutting the front would be ez'er
Your not dealing with doors ,just removing corners and caps and some wood
A FTP box would be way less hassle to do than a ribbed aluminum skin box

I worked for a company when 48 footers became legal. They began stretching their existing 40 and 42 footers. These were interior post and skin construction. They would cut the trailer somewhere near the center, off setting the frame cuts and add in the 6 or 8 feet.

I would think this same technique would work for shortening a box. Why mess with corners, seams, roof to nose joints, nose to side wall etc.

As for the OP, if your current box is in good shape it may be easier to sell that and buy a used 20 footer.

The offset cut is needed on a trl because of the twisting and flexing.
It cost me $1000 to remove the nose, cut out 6 feet, and reattach nose on a 2 year old Morgan body.

Nobody ever noticed, and a lot of people examined the truck. ImageUploadedByEO Forums1392816485.967648.jpg

Such a good looking Pete you had. I'm really hoping freightliner will get enough attention with the argosy glider that they actually re-introduce it with the dd13 in the US. I'd love to build a daycab argosy out to a expediter rig with an ari and a Morgan body.

Thanks. 108" of sleeper. 34' OAL.
I would have liked to have done that with an Argosy.

A company tried selling the Argosy glider on truckpaper, but it was off within a couple of weeks. Either they didn't get the response they wanted, or they neglected to ask FL first. Either way, they were wanting too much. I think it was $135k.

Don't worry. Once I win the lottery, I'll make FL an offer they cannot refuse. :)

If I hit the lottery the LAST thing I would think about would be FL, or ANY other truck company for that matter. :p
