Should we worry about?

I was delivering there, when I saw this truck. I knew this trucking company from Laredo, I knew they're Mexicans. Then I saw the drivers, they were team. I tried a conversation and it was a short one, their English was very limited. They were coming from Nuevo Laredo. Should we from now on to think twice before we accept a load going to the southern border?1366773630073.jpg

Just off the top of my head guess I would think they are Full Truckload and nothing to worry about for Expediters.

Don't kid yourself. I would bet they would be glad to haul a 1600 mile, 2-skid expedite from Detroit across the border when they have contacts willing to hook them up for 25-30 cents less per mile.

Very few Mexican company's have been approved for Authority in America. They can't haul freight originating in the US unless it's going back to Mexico. As far as I'm concerned haul away, who wants to go into a third world country?

It appears more carriers are getting approved. This will build into an issue but couple years off.

I know that. The point is they will take our runs. And since none of us will go to Mexico, they'll get 'em. But this thing should worry as well the warehouses from those border towns, if the mexican truckers will bring the freight all the way from Mexico to wherever the destinations are, there will be no more need for those transitory warehouses.

Do you worry about Canadian drivers? Anone got.proof they will haul cheaper? These aren't the border trucks we see down south.

Did you type that with a straight face? Canadian carriers pay on par with US carriers. A good wage in Mexico is 3 pesos per mile. About $.25.

But regardless of rate, they won't get this freight because shippers aren't convinced these trucks won't be targeted by state DOT.

I tend to agree that these guys will take any load at any freight rate to get a foot in the door, then when theyve knocked the rates down do they think they can raise them....I worked for a company that gave a monthly mileage bonus, after about a year of NEVER getting the bonus and running as hard as anyone, I learned there was a Mexican driver, with his wife and Kids living in a Condo tractor and he was getting the mileage bonus EVERY month.

He would never go home for the weekend, was always in his truck and dispatch USED him like a toy....he though he was rich, he may still be there....but I think they could drive rates down and make deals and accept ANY freight thinking there the preferred carrier and at 30/40 cents a mile they will be that ....

Some of the.big.carriers don't pay much more to new drivers right here in the states.

That's what I asked them, if they had any problems with the DOT. They didn't.

In regards to the title of this thread, why waste time and energy worrying about something that isn't going to change. If you are into worrying, you have had almost 20 years to worry knowing this day was inevitable, despite a few delays.

Yeah, why drive all the way to the southern border when Detroit is in our own backyard?

But regardless of rate, they won't get this freight because shippers aren't convinced these trucks won't be targeted by state DOT.
Any truck can be targeted by the DOT. I don't believe shippers would be concerned about Mexican trucks being targeted by state DOT. Mexican trucks are probably less likely to get scrutinized by state DOT for fear of being accused of singling out Mexican trucks. Think lawsuits and federal investigations against state DOT.

True, also some of these very carriers own or are in a partnership with Mexican carriers.
