Police officer 'among injured' in Wisconsin shooting

Police have confirmed that a shooting has taken place at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek in the US state of Wisconsin.

An officer had been shot multiple times but was expected to survive, said Greenfield Police Chief Bradley Wentland. There are reports of other casualties but no confirmed numbers.

Chief Wentland said one suspect had been shot, but more gunmen might still be on the loose inside the temple.

"This is an ongoing and very fluid situation," he said.

Chief Wentland said that an "unintelligible" call had been made to the 911 emergency services number at about 10:25 local time (15:25 GMT).

He said a police officer had been sent to the scene and had "engaged an active shooter", during which he had been shot multiple times.

But he said he had "no victim or suspect count".

Police have corralled journalists outside the temple and urged them not to broadcast aerial footage that could compromise the operation.

Oak Creek is a town of about 30,000 people in the south-east corner of the state.

Parminder Kaleka, who was waiting outside the temple, told the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel that she had phoned her brother-in-law - who she said was the priest of the temple - who was inside "at that time [the] shooting happened

"He told me 25 or more people got shot, at that time they don't even know if they are dead or alive, so a lot of people got injured."

She said she had heard her brother-in-law had also been shot, and said desperate families were gathered outside the temple waiting for news.

"This is a big tragedy for our church," she said, saying everyone had always assumed it would be a place of safety.

Other relatives of people inside the temple at the time of the shooting said they had heard reports of children being held hostage inside the basement, but there has been no confirmation of this

I wonder if this has anything to do with baggage that was brought for the 'old country? Like the billboard in Monroe county.

Ever see the billboard on I75 about the Sikh massacre? Look up Sikh massacre, there have been several. Just wondering if this is a continuation.

The most frustrating thing, (according to them), is the confusion with Muslims, which they are not.

Wonder if he was one of those vets who are on the PTSD cocktail of drugs. They are have a TON of trouble. Those drugs are NOT good. Sure glad they took my son off of the really bad ones.

I don't know if this is due to the drugging problem or not but it does have to stop. The idea of just drugging these guys and getting rid of them does not work.

Don't know about any drugs, yet. He was in the Army from 1992-1998. A sergeant demoted to specialist, was a Hawk missile repairman and then a psychological operations specialist. Left the Army with a less-than honorable discharge in October of '98. He is 40 years old.

Sounds like a real winner. You have to be a REAL "mess" up to get a discharge like that. Most likely should have never been in in the first place. Does not sound like he was a combat soldier. Don't like the Psyop stuff. Strange dudes and dudettes in those units.

The world is full of nuts. One report said he may be a white supremist.

I read where the police said he had tattoos suggesting a possible connection, and the meanings of the tattoos are being investigated.

More will surely come out. He got what he was after, he will be famous for a bit. He got the president, the republican candidate and HOURS of news coverage. Glad he is dead. Won't cost us anything to try him now.

Lots of nuts out there.
