Shipping-SOPs

I was wondering if anyone here might have some background in shipping AND be willing to help me out?

I need a starting point from which I can develop a set of 'Standard Operating Procedures' for a shipping department. Does anyone know where I might be able to put my hands on a sample document on the net somewhere? I've looked around and haven't had any luck so far!

I realize every place is different, and every company treats things with varying levels of accountability and oversight, but I'm just looking for a beginning point to work with.

I know that as expediters, we see things as we're being loaded by shipping departments. I can get a lot of assistance just from that.. however, if someone has experience operating as a shipper under a set of SOPs, or has a document hidden away on their computer somewhere, or knows a place on the net where some shipping SOPs might be listed, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Boy, good luck with that! I find it odd that there doesn't seem to be SOP in corporations with multiple locations. Of course, automotive is the glaring example. Every plant does it differently, even different docks at the same location will be different. It would seem like using some kind of SOP would be better for everyone involved.

Thanks! I didn't realize it was going to be such a tough thing to find! I guess perhaps many places would not want to share theirs even if they did have them. Having them and operating by them are 2 different animals tho, so there shouldn't be any great big trade secrets! The secret would be in how to get the right staff willing to perform according to the SOPs!
