SIOUX FALLS — South Dakota hunters get an early shot at pheasants this weekend.
A hunting season for state residents only is Saturday through Monday. Hunting is allowed only on public land from noon to sunset. There's a daily limit of three roosters.
A 79-day hunting season for residents and nonresidents opens on Oct. 17.
The annual summer brood survey showed fewer pheasants per mile than last year, but it was the fourth highest count in 45 years.
