The Journal Times Online > Local News > Schneider National cuts top speed to 60 mph
the rest of the article is longer in the paper. schneider currently has cruise limited to 63 and by july 1 will have all 10,600 trucks dialed down to 60. spokesperson janet bonkowski said the 3 mph decrease would save 3.75 million gallons of fuel a year with a savings to the company of 15.5 million dollars.

conway has started doing the same thing on their fleet cutting top speed from 70 to 65. bruce stockton, a vp at conway, says they expect to save 2.8 million gallons a year.

the ata is lobbying for a national speed limit of 65 across the board. the group called on congeress thursday to eneact the speed limit to save fuel and reduce greenhouse gasses.

food for thought.

How about all the date that shows that it's actually unsafe to have one segment of the vehicles on the road travelling at significantly slower speeds than the others? If you want to slow down the trucks, I'd lower the speed limits for cars as well and put everyone at the same limit. Get rid of the stupid split speeds altogether. I hate driving in states where the difference is large and all the trucks are puttering along 10 mph slower, or California where it's a 15 mph difference. If it was up to me, it would be 65 mph for everyone and no more than 5 mph tolerance over.
