I purchased a ScanGauge last summer for $122.00. I see the model I have has been replaced by the ScanGauge II. This new model is more compact and sleeker than the old version. It also sells for $169.99.
I believe this device has paid for itself already. I have pulled fault codes and reset the the check engine light on my son's car and two of my neighbor's vehicles. It also saved me from buying a cheap tachometer that I wanted for monitoring engine rpm's while running in the tow/haul mode on my Chevrolet van.
Like all electronic gadgets this has more features than I need or will ever use. The two main screens I use are the TRIP, which shows mpg's and the GAUGE which monitors 4 engine functions.
The TRIP screen shows mpg, miles, miles to empty, gallons consumed, elapsed time, average speed, maximum speed, maximum rpm, maximum coolant temperature and much more information.
The GAUGE screen can be customized to show four funtions at once. Some of these are mph, water temp, air intake temp, rpm, voltage, and manifold absolute pressure.
In the SCAN mode fault codes will be displayed and the ability to reset the check engine light.
On a typical day I will run the SCAN and then toggle bwtween TRIP which I have set to display mpg and GAUGE showing rpm, volts, water temperature and air intake temperature. I have found that the air intake temp accurately reflects the outside air temp when running at highway speeds. The sensor must be mounted far enough up stream so as not to be effected by engine compartment heat when moving.
All in all I am pleased with my ScanGauge. I prefer the sleeker profile of the new model though.
