saw an interesting van

I'm at the J in Columbia, SC and saw a Ford van set up with a storage box mounted on the front. The box is alumiplate and is from Tractor Supply Co and is about 15x15x48. The van has about a 12-15 inch high raised roof extension. In the back mounted into this extension is a small window unit air conditioner. On the rear is a platform with a 3.5kw generator and a mount/mast with a directv dish on it. On the roof was a pop up antenna that I guess is for radio or maybe local tv. Not sure how the freight gets in past the generator or how much load capacity is left after all that stuff but looked like a comfortable setup.

Seen that van in Indy and in Louisville, if it is the same one. There is another one that you would say can out of a stat wars, all kinds of stuff on it, including what i think are self-leveling jacks. i think i counted 8 antennas and all kinds of lights. I wonder if they are running legal with all this weight?

I believe what you refer to is the McGyvermobile owned and operated by Inspector Gadget from CT; If a FedEx Custom Critical van, that is.

The van's roof has a large, in motion satellite antenna, a couple of solar panels and antennas galore. The inside has so much woodwork I've wondered how on earth they could carry two skids. Somehow they must make it work.

I suspect the solar panels provide a trickle charge for the aux batteries. The van I mentioned had a gen in the box attached to the hitch receiver.

Got another look when I walked across the street to get a burger. The generator on the back is on a heavy duty hinged carrier so it swings out of the way to load freight. This is an older Ford, not sure what year but guessing early 200x and is with Tristate.

yea its mine. the generator 3550w. runs 14hrs on 4gal gas. provides elet to heat in winter and cool in the summer. powers the satelite sysyem and keeps van batteries charged when not driving. in extreme cold weather can plug in block heater for a easier start. need to be as relaxed as much as possible out here. as for weight still can carry 2500lbs legal. have a nice day drive safe

That's definitely a comfortable looking setup. I think you van guys are the most creative group considering what you have done as well as Terry and Dieseldoctor and others who have posted photos of their creations.

I think I've also seen this van. In addition to what you've mentioned, they were running team with 2 VERY large dogs. Where DO they put the freight?
