San Antonio+Straight Trucks
We have ENJOYED our weekend in San Antonio! It is a real challenge for a straight truck be we managed. HERE is what we learned:
If you chose to find a motel close to the Alamo and Riverwalk the are EXPENSIVE and most do not have parking for large trucks. ONE motel does have truck parking, it is a MicroTel. It has a BIG truck lot, be enough for T/T rigs, BUT, it is in a BAD area of town, graffiti EVERWHERE and the motel looked ratty.
Motels outside of the downtown area are far cheaper and there IS bus service. It is cheap but SLOW. We used it the first night, it added 3 hours to our evening.
Leaving your truck at a truckstop and renting a car is a GOOD option IF you have the time. Rooms and truck stops are a $25-35 taxi ride from the "Cool" stuff.
There is ONE other option that we were able to find. There is a parking lot about two blocks from the Alamo and 3 blocks from the Riverwalk that SORT OF has parking big enough for straight trucks.
It is on the corner of E. Crocket and Bowie Streets. It cost us $25 to park our truck from 2pm until 8am the next morning. It is OK IF you know how to back up OR get there VERY early in the morning. You can call ahead and make revervations for a spot, there are NOT many so it might be a good idea. The Phone# is 210-225-3973. The name of the parking company is Central Parking. The lot is next to a mall right behind the Macy's store. EVERYTHING that you want to see is well within walking distance from that lot.
There is a La Quinta across the road. THEY charge $75 per night to use the SAME lot!! Call the parking company direct and SAVE money IF you choose to use the downtown motels. THAT would be a NICE long weekend IF money is NOT a problem.
Vans and Sprinters will have NO problems finding parking. Sorry all you T/T types, I saw NO good options other than renting a car and leaving your truck someplace out of town.
We took a few pictures and I have posted them below. I hope this all helps.
