Safety while Sleeping

I thought I would pass on to owners of FL 70/80/112 trucks a cheap and effective method to protect yourself from someone trying to break into the truck while you are in the sleeper. This might work in other trucks but I am not familar with the cab layout.
Last winter I was laying over in Montgomery Alabama when at about 4AM I heard a noise outside.I looked out and it was a guy knocking on the drivers door and he had a large screwdriver that I assume he was going to try to pry open the door if no one was in the truck.I blasted the air horn and he took off.
The next day I started thinking about how to prevent this and came up with this idea and it works. I bought a 15 foot dog chain of the type that allows a dog to have a small area to roam in a yard but cannot leave. This chain had 2 clasps, one on each end. Then I ran the chain through the door handles across the top and bottom meeting in the middle by the transmission shifter. I secure the chain there with the clasps and this way neither door can be opened from the outside. If you had to leave in a hurry all you need to do is come out from the sleeper, unhook the clasps and exit either door. The chain was originally too long so I cut it to fit.
My wife laughed at me at first when she saw this hookup, but one night we were in the truck in San Jose Ca and she woke me saying she heard a noise. We were in a supermarket lot.I looked out the windows of the sleeper, saw nothing and looked out through the cab and saw that it was a sprinkler system that cam on.The next morning she said,"When I heard that noise I was sure glad the chain was on". So I won one..Anyway it works and I feel much more secure sleeping in the truck..

Thats a good idea Rich, Mike and I used to use S hook straps between the doors on a FL-70. You hook it up and then just ratchet it tight. (Not too tight otherwise it will give the doors that imploded look...ha ha :+ )

The only drawback is when in the middle of the night when Mother nature calls you undoing that strap not only seems to take forever but if you are "nearly over the brink"....well I don't believe I need to say more...lol:p

That is a great FL series security measure- esp. for me as I run solo and usually tune out most noises as I try to sleep. Even a thin chain through the door handles clasped with a twist tie would make enough unusual racket to wake me up and give me ample time to load up my air BB pistol (no not illegal to you DOT purists) and locate Mr. Jumbo the 12" adjustable wrench.
Thanks!
