Nope. Not gonna happen. If you want to run different companies, you have to give a cut to the company that you run under or get your own authority.

Actually you can if the companies will allow it. I'm doing just that, albeit w/ not so great results. 2 companies, 0 runs in 2 weeks. In full disclosure I was out of service for 3 days & did have 1 run offer, but couldn't take it. Still, not a lot of work between the 2 companies. Maybe that's why they're fine w/ signing on w/ someone else. They know it's slow. I'll try this setup for another month or so & see if it picks up any. If not I'll re-evaluate things & see what my options are.

So you can sign on w/ more than 1 company. As far as I know you just have to have your own insurance. This costs a bit more than just having bobtail. If ya get 1 run a month from company number 2, it should pay for itself though. Obviously your main company has to allow it too, but it can be done.

If you're going to do this make sure you let company B know if company A gives you a run.

I tried it before, worked great till Company A called with a hot load and I was under a load for Company B. Can't serve 2 masters.

Sorry... yes you can, but any of the majors will not. re; Panther, Tri State, FDCC, E - 1 Landstar etc. Probably really small fleets that don't handle much would where to look.

Well I am not having too much luck with 1 carrier, and I am strongly considering doing this on a local level. At least expenses will be alot cheaper. But per mile pay should be alot better than over the road,at least that is the way it used to be in the late 80's.

What's the difference if you needed a day off and declined a load they wouldn't say anything, really if you were under load the other company doesn't need to know. It's none of there business as long as you have no forced dispatch
As long as your making money for both and yourself

Red flags popping up all around this scenario. One illegal move can end a driver's career. What happens when a driver is hauling a load for Company A.... and Company B calls him/her for a random drug screen(which must be done immediately) ??

What if a traffic accident occurs?? Will the insurance company be pleased with the duality of your existence? Will law enforcement officers understand your predicament?

Many questions come to mind. Best bet is to get your own authority or sign on with one carrier and be faithful to your lease.

Some good points there. I don't have an answer on the random drug test except to tell them I'm on a run for the other company.

As for the accident, the insurance company knows about multiple companies. I got the policy w/ that in mind & they know upfront. As for the police, ya just tell em you're on a load for whichever company you're on the run w/. knock on wood that one won't happen, but that's what I'd tell em if one did.

You might be right on the one carrier thing. Like was mentioned above, the companies that will let ya do this are the smaller ones w/ not a lot of freight. But it would be for the reason of more freight w/ one of the big guys than the drug test or accident thing.

Work it if you can, It didn't work for me, small company's where the depend on you, will be the first to agree they don't need a part time truck.

This can work provided the dispatch at both companies understand your position of first to call gets your services. Normally this does not work out super good as you'll lose out on some nice calls now and then the obvious problem of being busy when you're needed at one company causes them to call less.
I do know that we have 2 s/t on with us who are working for other companies as we don't have enough work to keep them busy and the fact that my s/t has taken some of the work as well. One s/t has found this is a good situation as he usually has some kind of work everyday from one or the other companies so he isn't sitting idle for a day or 2.

ovm your situation is different because i would be dealing with your coming but requesting your perticular truck. your company would take there cut first. in this case a drive would not need to get his own insurance. Further more i am planning to change insurance companies because of this and one other reason.
they know me? nothing but good things to say i hope:)
Ovm are you going to make it up hear
