What is the best and quickest procedure to check your route and look for bridge and road restrictions when carrying explosives or radioactive?
When your route takes you over a bridge that requires an escort how do you find out the number of who you need to call and how soon you need to call?

Rand McNally map at the front will give you restrictions., but dispatch should take care of this before you leave the shipper.

Like Rich said, dispatch is the one to call. That is plan A. Plan B could be to check HAZMAT routing with CoPilot Truck mapping software, but that information is general in nature. As you know, some types of HAZMAT are permitted on bridges or in tunnels where others are prohibited. CoPilot Truck is not so refined to give such specifics.

We have tried calling the numbers in the atlas for HAZMAT information. We gave that up. You will sometimes spend an hour on the phone being transferred from one person to another who does not know the answer to the question you are asking. We now let dispatch make the calls if such calls need to be made.

California has many restrictions as too where you can stop for breaks etc. Dispatch can fax you the California Guidelines. They are very strict, one time we hauled a A/E load from above San Diego to Yuma AZ and was stopped twice on I8 for ppwk inspections.

The Rand McNally atlas has just about every phone number you'll need. I would check that before going with dispatch. If they end up missing something, you'll get the ticket.
